Digitigrade costume stilts create the raised-heel, toe-walking silhouette of animal and fantasy legs—useful for characters such as werewolves, dragons, fauns, and minotaurs. Make:’s 2014 project by Kyle Scheele is a hardware-store-materials build, but its page does not give a load rating or independent safety validation. Treat it as a costume project, not a proven design for every wearer or for running.
What this Make: project is—and what it is not
Digitigrade legs make a human wearer look as though they are walking on their toes, while the costume’s apparent lower leg extends toward a raised heel. Scheele’s project is aimed at that creature-leg effect. It is distinct from ordinary wooden stilts, which raise the wearer without creating the same bent, animal-like leg profile.
The original Make: article, “How-To:Quick & Easy Digitigrade Stilts For Halloweeen”, lists materials and tools and links a video. It does not establish a load capacity or independent safety testing. The materials list is therefore a record of the featured build, not an engineered specification or guarantee that the same parts will suit every wearer.

Scheele reported assembling his pair over a few hours; that is his account of his own build, not a completion-time promise for other makers. Check that the parts you source match one another and the intended wearer before building. The cited project page does not provide enough engineering or fit information to infer a safe working load.

How the Make: build compares with another digitigrade design
Willow Creative documents a separate costume-oriented approach in its “Build: Digi stilts” log. Its design uses aluminum extrusion and ABS-based construction rather than the hardware-store materials listed by Make:. Willow describes its version as primarily for posing and standing still, prioritizing balance, stamina, and stability over running or movement.
In a video description published in 2020, Willow Creative says that design adds about 25 cm (approximately 9.8 inches) of height. That figure applies to Willow Creative’s design, not Scheele’s Make: project. The sources do not provide comparable load ratings or controlled performance tests, so neither design can be ranked by capacity or declared objectively safer.

Practice cautiously before wearing stilts with a costume
General wooden-stilt advice from This Old House’s guide to a different stilt project recommends starting at a low height in a flat, open area with a spotter. It also advises taking small, deliberate steps and looking ahead toward the path. This is general learning guidance, not a test or certification of the Make: digitigrade design.
