To block out noise, start by reducing the sound at its source, increasing your distance from it, and spending less time in it. At home, close doors and windows, seal obvious gaps, and adjust your room layout; these steps may help but are not a guarantee of soundproofing. For loud sound you cannot avoid, use properly fitted hearing protection rather than relying on ordinary noise-cancelling headphones.
Start with the sound source and your exposure
Noise control works best when you can reduce sound before it reaches you. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) sums up the main options: “The best ways to protect your hearing are to avoid exposure to loud sounds, move away from the noise, or turn down the volume.”
1. Turn down the source
Lower the volume on speakers, televisions, and devices you control. This can make a shared room or workspace more comfortable and helps protect hearing. If the sound is coming from someone else’s equipment, ask whether it can be turned down or relocated.
2. Move farther away
Increase your distance from loudspeakers, machinery, appliances, or noisy activities. Moving your desk or resting place farther from a noisy wall, window, or appliance can also help. The amount of change depends on the source and space, but distance is a basic way to reduce exposure.

- Professional Safe - With strong fire resistance and good air permeability, the acoustic foam panels can stop burning to prevent hidden fire hazards. Also, non-toxic materials won't do harm to your body while everyday use.
3. Spend less time in the noise
Shorten the time you remain around loud sound and take breaks in a quieter place. Both sound level and listening duration affect hearing risk. The World Health Organization (WHO) gives 80 dB for up to 40 hours per week and 90 dB for four hours per week as examples in its safe-listening framework; these are not individual guarantees of safety.
4. Choose a quieter place
When practical, avoid or limit noisy activities and spaces. Choose a quieter route, seat, room, or time of day, or step away for a break. If you need to shout to be heard, the CDC says the sound is too loud and may damage your hearing.
Make a room quieter with practical building and layout changes
If you are trying to block noise from neighbors or outside, begin with openings and the layout of the room. These are reasonable household measures, not a tested soundproofing system: their results vary with the building, the noise source, and the path sound takes into the room.

- Recommended Usage Scenarios: The acoustic panel is designed for sound absorption, making it perfect for reducing echo and improving acoustic quality in home studios, podcast rooms, gaming setups, office conference rooms, vocal booths, or home theaters. Not intended for full soundproofing or noise isolation from external environments.
5. Close doors and windows
Close the window or door between you and the outdoor or neighboring noise when ventilation and safety allow. This is a simple first step, but it does not guarantee that the room will be quiet; sound may still travel through the building or other openings.
6. Seal obvious gaps
Check for visible gaps around doors and windows and consider weatherstripping or another suitable seal. Treat it as a low-cost trial for sound entering through openings, not as a promise of a particular decibel reduction. Avoid blocking required ventilation or interfering with fire-safety provisions.
7. Reposition your work or rest area
Move a bed, chair, or desk farther from a noisy window, wall, appliance, or shared boundary if the room allows. Even a modest layout change can put more distance between you and the source without altering the building.

8. Place noisy equipment thoughtfully
Where practical, move noisy equipment away from walls and from areas where people work or sleep. The effect depends on the machine, room, and how sound travels; this is a general source-control principle, not a guaranteed fix for vibration or sound passing through a structure.
9. Soften reflections with furnishings
Rugs, curtains, and upholstered furniture can reduce the hard, echoing feel of a room by absorbing some reflected sound. They may make conversation or television sound less harsh inside the room, but should not be treated as soundproofing against neighbors or outdoor noise.

10. Consider a barrier
A barrier placed between the source and the area you want quieter is a recognized noise-control approach. What works depends on the source, barrier, placement, and room. There is no universal panel thickness or household barrier that can be assumed to block a specific amount of sound, so avoid relying on an unverified product claim.

Use background sound and headphones for ordinary noise
11. Try quiet, steady masking sound
A fan or other steady background sound may make intermittent noises less noticeable. Keep it at a comfortable, low level and do not turn it up to compete with loud sound. Masking changes what you notice; it does not reduce hazardous exposure or protect hearing.
12. Use noise-cancelling headphones appropriately
Well-fitted noise-cancelling headphones can help with ordinary background noise, including during listening in a noisy place, and may reduce the temptation to raise playback volume. Keep listening volume conservative. Noise cancellation alone is not hearing protection: NIOSH says it should not be considered protection unless the device is labeled with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR).

Sounds at or below 70 dBA are generally considered safe, while a single very loud sound or long or repeated exposure at or above 85 dBA can cause hearing loss, according to NIDCD. Music through headphones at maximum volume, sporting events, and concerts can range from 94 to 110 dBA, also according to NIDCD. These figures are guidance, not a measurement of any particular room or event.

13. Wear earplugs
Foam, pre-molded, and custom-molded earplugs can lower the sound reaching your ears, but they do not block all sound. Fit matters: follow the product’s insertion instructions, and choose a style you can wear comfortably and correctly. Poorly fitted plugs may provide less protection than intended.
14. Use protective earmuffs when appropriate
Earmuffs may suit some loud activities, provided they fit correctly and are compatible with the setting. Consider whether you need to hear speech, alarms, or other warnings. For workplace noise, follow your employer’s hearing-conservation guidance and use fit testing where available; specialized options include musician earplugs designed for more even sound reduction and protectors with communication features.
When comparing hearing protectors, consider the sound level and type, the setting, fit and comfort, how easily you can use them correctly, and whether you must communicate or hear warnings. Use a rated product appropriate to the exposure rather than assuming that any earplug or headphone is sufficient.
Know when to seek hearing advice
15. Take hearing changes seriously
Persistent ringing, difficulty hearing, or concern about a loud exposure are reasons to contact a hearing professional or doctor. Loud noise can damage hearing and cause tinnitus; CDC advises contacting a doctor if you suspect hearing loss.
