Start by identifying the exact Hobart model on the machine’s data plate and finding its matching operator manual. Hobart dishwasher troubleshooting steps and error codes vary by machine family; an LXn or AM16 instruction is not automatically safe or correct for another model. Use the manual’s operator checks only, and contact Hobart Service for faults that persist or require technical work.
Identify the model before troubleshooting
Read the model and serial information from the machine data plate. Then find the matching documentation through Hobart’s Customer Manuals Portal. Some materials require registration. LXn owners can also use the LXn support page, which links to customer support material.
Record any displayed error code and its full text before taking action. The code chart in the exact model’s manual controls what to check and how to clear the message. Do not transfer a code meaning or repair step from one family to another.
Hobart dishwasher won’t start
Depending on the model, a no-start condition may have an operator-level cause. Use the manual to check the items it identifies, such as whether the machine is switched on, doors are fully closed, the required tank or drain condition is met, and the supply breaker has not tripped. Conveyor machines may have a jam or sensor-related condition; follow that model’s troubleshooting guide rather than applying undercounter-machine steps.

Dishes are not clean
Poor wash results can come from several causes, so check basic loading and cleaning conditions before assuming a component has failed. Hobart’s symptom guidance identifies blocked strainers, obstructed or non-turning wash arms, low water, low wash temperature, poor rack loading, heavy soil, and detergent problems as possibilities; details vary by model.
- Inspect and clean the strainer as directed in the model’s manual, then reinstall it correctly.
- Check that wash arms are free of visible obstruction and can turn freely, following the manual’s instructions.
- Confirm the water supply is on and load racks as specified. Scrape heavy food soil before washing.
- Check the displayed wash temperature against the instructions for that machine. The older LXe manual, F38435 (03-14), gives figures above 120°F for chemical-sanitizing machines and above 150°F for high-temperature machines; these are not universal settings for every Hobart model.
- If detergent delivery or concentration may be wrong, contact the chemical supplier rather than adjusting a system without model-specific instructions.
If cleaning remains poor after the operator checks, or temperature, pump, chemical-system, or mechanical problems are suspected, arrange service or consult the appropriate chemical representative.

Spots on dishes or glassware
For the LXe, Hobart lists incorrect rack loading, low temperature, detergent type or concentration, hard water, and insufficient fill among possible causes. Other machine families may differ. Follow the applicable manual and ask the chemical supplier about detergent or water-treatment questions; changing chemicals or treatment is not a universal DIY fix.
Understand the error code on your model
The examples below come from specific Hobart manuals and are not a complete or cross-model code directory. Follow the exact code entry and clearing instructions on the machine or in its manual.

LXn: examples from manual F41243 (10-23)
- Code 019: Hobart identifies a blocked tank strainer pan. Remove, clean, and replace it as directed.
- Code 029: The door was opened during operation. Close it and make sure it is fully seated.
- Code 032: This booster-fill error directs the operator to check that incoming water is on, the fill hose is not kinked, and water pressure is within the stated 15–65 psi range.
- Codes 021/022: These concern drain conditions. The manual calls for the machine to be off and the wash water to cool before the specified checks.
AM16: use its separate code chart
The AM16 Series manual F41173 (11-21) documents its own codes. For example, code 019 concerns the tank strainer pan, while code 035 concerns a scrap basket that is not inserted or locked as required. Use the AM16 manual’s exact instructions; do not assume the LXn procedure or code meaning is interchangeable.
Fill, strainer, and drain checks
Fill errors
For LXn and AM16 codes 032 and 033, Hobart’s instructions include confirming the incoming water is on, checking that the fill hose is not kinked, and checking water pressure within the manuals’ stated 15–65 psi range. This range applies to those specified codes and manuals, not to every Hobart dishwasher. For code 033, the guidance says to turn off the water and contact Hobart Service if the error persists.

Strainer or scrap-basket codes
For LXn/AM16 code 019, remove, clean, and reinstall the strainer pan as the relevant manual directs, then clear the code using the on-screen or manual procedure. For AM16 code 035, check that the scrap basket is inserted and locked as instructed. If the code will not clear or a part is damaged, confirm the model and seek Hobart support or a compatible replacement rather than forcing the component.
Drain errors
For selected LXn/AM16 drain codes, Hobart directs operators to switch the machine off and allow wash water to cool before checking for debris or a kinked or improperly installed hose. Some instructions include cleaning the drain hose; the particular code determines the correct steps and how to clear it. Do not reach into hot water or work around energized equipment. If the obstruction is inaccessible or the error remains, stop and contact service.

When to stop and call Hobart Service
Keep troubleshooting to the checks the operator manual specifically permits. Do not open energized equipment, bypass an interlock, change wiring, or attempt repairs beyond your training. If a documented check does not resolve the problem, or the fault involves internal electrical, pump, temperature, chemical-system, or mechanical components, contact Hobart Service. Hobart describes its technicians as factory-trained to service commercial dishwashers and offers OEM parts fulfillment.
Replace a part only when it is damaged or missing
A dirty strainer generally needs the manual-directed cleaning, not a new part. If the strainer or scrap basket is damaged or missing, confirm the exact machine model and part number before ordering a compatible replacement. Hobart’s service and parts resources can help verify fit; do not assume a component fits across Hobart families.
