PerthNow reported that four fire crews attended after a 000 call at 12:16 pm, and the fire was extinguished by 2 pm. The report said the blaze was believed to have started in the garage area and spread to the roof, but its cause was not confirmed.
Where the fire happened
PerthNow placed the fire at a duplex on Petterson Avenue, near McCombe Avenue, in Kardinya. The report described damage to the home but did not provide a final property-damage assessment.
When crews attended and extinguished the fire
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) spokesman told PerthNow that the emergency call was made at 12:16 pm and four crews attended. The fire was extinguished by 2 pm. Firefighters planned to remain at the scene to dampen down and watch for flare-ups.
What was known about the fire’s origin
The contemporaneous report said the fire was believed to have started in the garage area and spread to the roof. It also said it was too early to confirm the cause, and did not report a later investigation finding.

Whether anyone was home
The DFES spokesman was unsure whether anyone was in the home when the fire occurred. The owners were believed to be overseas, but PerthNow did not confirm that anyone was absent or establish who, if anyone, was at the property.
