If your H2O X5 will not power on, produces little or no steam, leaks at an attachment, or leaves the cloth very wet, start with the checks below. Switch the appliance off, unplug it, and let it cool before cleaning an outlet, disconnecting an accessory, or handling the cloth. Follow the user guide supplied with your exact model; versions and electrical fittings can differ.
Before troubleshooting: make the mop safe
Turn the H2O X5 off, unplug it, and wait for it to cool before maintenance. Do not handle hot attachments or connections. The Thane H2O Mop X5 User’s Guide warns: “Never put hot water or any other liquids such as aromatic, alcohol-based, or detergent products into the H2O MOP X5™ Water Tank.” Use only the water and cleaning procedures permitted by the manual for your model.
Why will my H2O X5 not power on?
- Check that the plug is seated in an appropriate outlet and that the appliance’s switch is on, as the Thane user guide directs.
- If it still does not turn on, try another suitable outlet. For UK units with a UK plug, Argos support for product 731/7631 also advises checking the plug fuse. Fuse advice is specific to that plug context; follow local electrical guidance elsewhere.
If power remains absent, stop troubleshooting and contact the seller, Thane support, or a qualified repair provider. Do not use the appliance if its cord or plug is damaged.
Why is my H2O X5 not producing steam?
The Thane guide identifies three common checks: an empty water tank, a blocked steam outlet, and lime scale. With the appliance unplugged and cool, work through them in that order.

1. Check the water tank
Check the tank and fill it according to the instructions for your model. Do not add hot water, detergent, or other liquids during ordinary use.
2. Check the steam outlet
Inspect the outlet and clean it only as described in the user guide. Do not force a tool into it or dismantle the mop. Use a cleaning pin only if the manual supplied with your unit specifically permits it.

3. Consider lime scale
Scale can reduce or stop steam. Thane UK recommends descaling the H2O X5 every 2–3 months and describes using its descaler or a vinegar-and-water solution, followed by flushing the system with fresh water. This is manufacturer guidance on the Thane UK H2O X5 FAQ, not a universal schedule for every version or steam mop. Check your model’s manual for the permitted solution and procedure before descaling; do not use an unverified chemical or force a blockage.
If the tank, outlet, and manual-approved descaling checks do not restore steam, contact Thane or a qualified repair provider rather than opening internal components.

Why is steam escaping from the connections?
Do not touch a hot connection. Switch the mop off, unplug it, and let it cool. Then follow the guide’s basic connection check:
- Detach the accessory.
- Check connection points for visible debris and remove it without damaging the parts.
- Reconnect the accessory correctly and securely, following the guide for your model.
If steam or water still escapes, or the leak appears to come from the hose or appliance body, stop using the mop and contact Thane support or a qualified repair provider. Do not attempt to open or repair internal electrical or pressure components.

Why does the cleaning cloth become wet?
A saturated cloth may need attention rather than an appliance repair. The Thane guide says to replace it, or let it cool, wring it out, and reattach it. It also recommends lowering the steam setting. Wait until the cloth and mop are cool before handling the cloth.
Thane USA lists replacement cloths and accessories on its H2O X5 product page. Check that a replacement is specifically compatible with your H2O X5 version before buying.

What if the H2O X5 clicks but produces no steam?
Argos says clicking can indicate that the unit is heating. For the UK product it supports, if clicking continues for a few minutes without steam, its guidance is to disconnect power, let the mop cool, and gently shake it before trying again. This is retailer advice for that listed product, not a diagnosis of every clicking fault. If the problem persists, stop and contact support.
When to stop and get help
- Steam or water continues to leak after the cool, re-seat, and debris checks.
- The cord or plug is damaged, or the appliance shows signs of electrical damage.
- The mop still will not power on or produce steam after the checks in its manual.
- A fault appears to involve the body, hose, or internal parts.
Use the support channel for your region or the seller that supplied the unit. Provide the model/version and describe the symptom; do not continue using a leaking or electrically damaged appliance.
