The GT-1 is a folding multitool built around two arms and a central brass pivot. New Atlas reported that the arms combine measuring, fastening, stripping, filing and prying features in a tool measuring 2.8 inches closed and 4.75 inches open. Those are the product’s reported design capabilities, not independently tested performance.
How the GT-1 opens and closes
According to New Atlas’s June 25, 2024 report, the GT-1’s two arms are made from 01 tool steel and joined by a 385-grade brass pivot. A hexagonal opening through the pivot works as a quarter-inch bit driver. With the arms folded, the arrangement can be used like an L-wrench; with the arms open, it can form a T-wrench. Markings on the pivot are intended to help measure angles.
The design concentrates multiple edges and markings on the arms, so the tool’s configuration determines which features are accessible. New Atlas describes the following functions; the report does not establish how well they perform in practical use.

The source calls the tool a 12-function multitool, but its feature descriptions do not enumerate 12 wholly separate mechanisms: the pivot driver, arm-end drivers and other features can serve overlapping roles. Treat the number as the manufacturer’s reported product framing in the New Atlas article, rather than a count verified through testing.

Accessories and historical pricing
New Atlas described two optional accessories: a leather-and-brass keyring attachment, and a “Toolbox” attachment incorporating a compass, bubble level, belt clip and bit holders. The June 25, 2024 article reported a US$34 Kickstarter pledge and a stated US$48 retail price. These are historical campaign-era figures, not current offers; the report does not establish whether the tool or accessories are available now.
Who designed the GT-1
The New Atlas report identifies Derek Cascio and Aaron Double as the designers, Boston-based Niche Industries as the manufacturer, and Mike Davidson as a design contributor.

What to check before choosing one
The GT-1’s compact dimensions may matter if storage space is a priority, but its listed features should be weighed against the tasks you actually need to do. For construction work, check bit compatibility and whether a dedicated tool is more appropriate for the job; the report does not document durability, safety testing or performance under load. Confirm current availability, price and whether any accessory is included directly with a seller before making a purchase decision.
