More station precincts are planned, with a particular focus on Perth’s Fremantle line, but no additional Fremantle-line stations had been officially confirmed in the reporting published on 28 November 2025. The WA Government’s initial program names 10 precincts; the boundaries, heights and density rules for future precincts remain subject to detailed planning.
What has been announced—and what has not
On 14 November 2025, the WA Government announced 10 initial station precincts: Ballajura, Glendalough, Bassendean, Morley, Carlisle/Oats St, Mosman Park, Claisebrook, Redcliffe, Cottesloe and Swanbourne. Its approach is intended to create a consistent planning framework for a mix of housing within 800 metres of selected train stations. The Government’s announcement also says local-government consultation will inform the specific planning.
In a PerthNow report published 28 November 2025, Planning and Lands Minister John Carey said more precincts would be added, with a particular focus on the Fremantle line. That is a stated future direction, not confirmation of a second station list. The report did not identify any additional Fremantle-line station as officially selected.
Which Fremantle-line stations could be considered?
PerthNow discussed West Leederville, Subiaco, Daglish, Shenton Park, Karrakatta, Loch St, Showgrounds, Claremont, Grant St, Victoria St and North Fremantle as possible candidates. These were the article’s inferred possibilities, not locations named in a Government announcement or a confirmed selection. Mosman Park, Cottesloe and Swanbourne, by contrast, are already among the Government’s 10 initial precincts.

Carey’s reported focus reflects his view that density along the corridor remains too low. In the article, he said: “Decades after the reopening of the Fremantle line, density along this public transport corridor remains far too low.” That is the minister’s policy rationale, not an independent finding or a forecast of development at any particular station.
Who would set the planning rules?
Carey told the Legislative Assembly on 18 November 2025 that “the state, through the Western Australian Planning Commission, will take planning control, will set the zoning and the height”. Hansard records his explanation of the State’s role: the intended approach is to consolidate and simplify planning, including where station areas span local-government boundaries, and enable more medium- to high-density housing near stations.

- EASY-TO-ASSEMBLE DESIGN – Molded in color and features numbered parts for easy identification and assembly. Basic modeling tools required (not included).
- EXPANDABLE PLATFORM SYSTEM – Designed to be combined with additional kits to create longer station platforms and larger railroad scenes.
- REALISTIC RAILROAD SCENERY – Compatible with virtually any model train layout and provides an authentic passenger station focal point for hobbyists and collectors age 14+.
This describes the policy approach; it does not mean detailed controls have already been approved for every initial or potential future precinct. The Government says precinct-specific planning will establish zoning and height settings, with local-government consultation contributing to the process.
What the 800-metre area means for builders and residents
The 800-metre figure is the stated planning area around selected stations, not a housing target, a guaranteed construction boundary for every future plan, or an estimate of how many homes will be built. The exact extent of each precinct and the rules within it depend on its planning process.

For property owners, residents and construction businesses, the practical questions are therefore precinct-specific: whether a station is officially included, where the eventual boundary falls, and what zoning, height and infill provisions the plan adopts. Until those details are released, a station’s inclusion in a candidate list does not establish what can be built on a particular site.

- Which additional Fremantle-line stations, if any, have been selected since the 28 November 2025 report.
- The boundary and eventual height, density and infill controls for each future precinct.
- How much housing could be delivered, and on what timetable. The cited reporting provides no quantified forecast for additional Fremantle-line precincts.
For updates, check the WA Government’s station precinct information and relevant local-government planning notices as precinct-specific material is released.
