WOOD Magazine offers a free plan for a wall-mounted coat rack whose six wooden hooks pivot out of sight when not in use. Press the bottom of a hook and it drops down for hanging. The plan includes dimensions, a cut list and build instructions; its PDF identifies the design as DP-01120.

WOOD Magazine’s free hidden-hook coat rack project page was published August 23, 2019. It links to a five-page PDF plan, DP-01120, designed by John Olson, with production credited to Craig Ruegsegger and John Olson. The PDF specifies a rack measuring 5 7/8 inches high × 23 1/8 inches wide × 1 3/8 inches deep with the hooks up.
The plan’s six hooks sit between paired spacers and pivot on a threaded rod. Pressing a hook’s lower end makes it drop down. The mechanism is simple, but it depends on accurately aligned pivot holes and hooks fitted to move smoothly without excessive looseness.
Materials and cut list
The PDF calls for the following stock and hardware for one rack. The trim pieces are cut to fit, rather than assigned fixed lengths.

WOOD estimates approximately 1.5 board feet of 4/4 quartersawn oak per rack. It recommends quartersawn stock to minimize wood movement that could cause the hooks to bind.
How the hidden-hook mechanism is assembled
The plan places each hook between two spacers. The spacers are glued to the back; aligned holes through the spacers and hooks accept the threaded rod, which serves as the pivot. Relieve the spacer edges lightly and fit each hook so it moves smoothly with slight friction before assembling the row.

WOOD’s plan notes: “The hooks pivot easier on a threaded rod than on a dowel or smooth rod.” Follow that hardware choice rather than substituting a dowel if you want to build the mechanism as drawn. The plan also says the rack can be made longer by adding hooks and spacers.
Mount the rack to suitable wall structure
The drawing calls out #8 × 2 1/2-inch screws into a wall stud or anchor, and the final instruction says to secure the back to the wall with screws into studs or appropriate wall anchors. Choose fasteners and anchors suitable for your wall construction and installation; the plan provides no wall-specific anchor selection chart and publishes no tested load rating. Do not assume that any hollow-wall anchor, or the rack itself, is suitable for a particular load.

A separate CNC project is not the same plan
Vectric describes a distinct four-hook hidden coat-hook project intended for CNC cutting. Its files require login, and its workflow differs from WOOD’s manually built six-hook design.
