What the plan includes
The contemporary design is intended to work as an end table or nightstand. Its storage comes from a drawer and shelves, while a routed recess on the underside of the top holds an inductive charger. A cord channel provides a route for the charger lead. The official page describes the design as featuring clean lines, joinery, and generous drawer space; the project PDF gives the construction details.
The finished dimensions are 24 inches wide × 18 inches deep × 24 inches high. The plan calls for walnut and walnut plywood alongside maple and birch plywood, with additional hardware and fasteners. Consult the plan’s materials list and cutting diagram before purchasing lumber; the overview is not a substitute for the listed quantities and dimensions.
Materials, hardware, and tools to check
The PDF specifies screws, brads, and walnut dowel as well as the wood and plywood. Among the listed items are a #8 × 1¼-inch trim screw, a #8 × 1-inch flathead screw, an #18 × 1¼-inch brad, and a ½ × 12-inch walnut dowel. These details come from the 2019 plan PDF, so check its full materials list and cutting diagram against your build before buying.

Listed shop equipment includes a dado set, router bits, a guide bushing, and a plug cutter. Specifically, the plan names a ¾-inch top-bearing pattern bit, ⅛-inch and ¼-inch straight router bits, a ⅜-inch guide bushing, and a ¼-inch plug cutter. It also lists a bandsaw and a brad-point bit. The plan specifies tool types rather than brands.
How the joinery and charger recess work
At the top and legs, the plan uses a pegged modified lap joint. WOOD Magazine’s PDF clarifies that it is not a conventional half-lap: it is cut in a similar fashion and is a bridle joint missing half the bridle. The rails use a joint the instructions call a “Swedish lap joint.” Follow the project drawings and sequence for these joints rather than treating the names as interchangeable with other lap-joint designs.

The charger pocket is routed into the underside of the top, with a channel for its cord. The instructions call for temporarily fitting and testing the charger, then routing deeper if necessary. That test-fit step matters: a replacement module may differ in thickness, footprint, connector, or cord arrangement, and the plan does not establish that a generic charger will fit.
Charger compatibility and substitutions
The plan specifies a SurgeDisc SD180 inductive charger with a 5-volt, 2-amp power adapter and microplug. This is the specification in a PDF copyrighted 2019, not confirmation that the model remains available. Before substituting, check that the charger supports your phone, its physical dimensions suit the recess, and its power connection and cord can be accommodated. Do not enlarge or deepen the pocket until you have checked the fit and the remaining material in the tabletop.

The PDF says many newer smartphones accommodate inductive charging and notes that some older models may use a case with an inductive charger. That is general guidance in the plan, not a current compatibility guarantee. Verify the requirements for your particular phone and charging module.
