The Flip-Up Pen Box woodworking plan is for a compact desktop case that stores a pair of turned pens or pencils. Raising the lid lifts the writing instruments for easy access. The finished box is approximately 6 inches long by 2 inches deep by 2 inches tall.
What the plan makes
WOOD describes the project as a small presentation box for two pens. Its lid mechanism raises the contents when opened, rather than simply exposing pens resting in a stationary tray. The publisher suggests making the box from the same wood as the writing instruments.
The project appeared in WOOD Issue 124, dated June 2000. The current project listing was updated January 16, 2024.

Confirm the selected listing’s delivery method and included instructions or templates before purchase. A plan provides project guidance; the Woodcraft paper listing specifically excludes materials.
Materials and tools: what is established
WoodworkersWorkshop describes the plan as using moradillo and allowing other exotic or figured domestic hardwoods. It lists a tablesaw and/or bandsaw, planer or sander, clamps, router, drill, and common hand tools, and says a full materials and supplies list accompanies its plan. These are the seller’s descriptions, not an independently reviewed specification or a requirement to use moradillo.

Its methods and dimensions are for a different project, so use the selected Flip-Up Pen Box plan—not that separate build—as the authority for cuts, joinery, and assembly.

- Choose stock suitable for a small desktop box; the plan listing’s moradillo description is not a mandatory wood specification.
- Check the plan’s materials list before buying lumber or hardware. The paper-only Woodcraft listing says materials are not included.
- Follow the named plan for dimensions and construction details; the approximately 6 × 2 × 2-inch overall size does not supply a cut list.
