How to choose without damaging the grill
Identify the surface first

It warns against oven cleaner and abrasive cleaning pads, among other products. This is Weber-specific guidance, not a substitute for the care instructions for another grill.

A practical cleaning sequence
For gas grills, Weber’s guide describes burning off residue, brushing the grate, and using grate cleaner if needed; it also recommends regular grease-tray cleaning. Treat these as Weber’s maintenance recommendations rather than universal instructions for every model.
- Check the grill manual to confirm the material of the grate, interior parts, and exterior.
- Choose a cleaner labeled for that surface. Keep grate and interior cleaners separate from products intended specifically for exterior finishes.
- Turn the grill off and let it cool as directed by the cleaner and grill makers.
- Apply the product according to its label. If using Goo Gone Grill and Grate Cleaner, avoid aluminum and faux stainless steel.
- Rinse the cleaned surface with water before food contact when the product directions require it.
- Clean grease trays and other maintenance areas according to the grill maker’s instructions.
