Check your fridge’s exact model code in Samsung’s regional filter finder or manual; if you cannot find the model code, read the part number printed on the installed cartridge. That is more reliable than choosing a replacement based only on the Samsung name.
Where to look for the water filter
The filter location varies by Samsung refrigerator model. Samsung’s Canada guidance shows examples inside the refrigerator near the upper right and near the bottom by the crisper drawers. These are places to check, not a rule for every fridge.
- Open the refrigerator and check for a filter compartment near the upper-right interior.
- If it is not there, check the lower interior near the crisper drawers.
- Use the manual for your exact model to confirm the location and removal method.

How to identify the right replacement filter
Compatibility is model-specific. Find your refrigerator’s model code on the appliance label; Samsung Canada’s filter finder describes the label as being on the inner right wall, though placement can vary by design or region. Enter the code in Samsung’s regional compatibility finder or use it to locate the manual and compatible-filter listing.

If you cannot readily find the model code, inspect the installed cartridge for its printed part number. Samsung’s US guide names HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAFCU1 for the models it covers. Treat those names as clues, not as a universal compatibility list: confirm the exact fridge model and market before buying.

Replacing the cartridge and resetting the indicator
The precise lock direction, flushing amount, and indicator-reset control depend on the refrigerator model and cartridge. Follow the manual for those details rather than forcing a cartridge or applying another model’s instructions.
- Check the manual for any instructions to shut off the water supply or relieve pressure.
- Unlock and remove the old cartridge using its designed mechanism.
- Remove protective packaging from the compatible replacement, seat it fully, and lock it as the manual specifies.
- Restore the water supply and flush the system as directed to clear air or particles.
- Reset the filter indicator using the model-specific control or button sequence.
Samsung recommends replacing the filter about every six months in its Canada guidance. It describes the indicator as a timer or reminder, and notes that local water quality and dispenser use may affect when replacement is needed; the interval is a manufacturer recommendation, not a universal guarantee. Consult the replacement instructions and your refrigerator’s exact manual for the procedure.
