Etsy named Patina Blue its 2026 Color of the Year on December 10, 2025. The blue-green hue takes its cue from copper as it ages, and Etsy’s styling direction pairs it with ceramics, soft furnishings, and warm metals such as copper or brass. Etsy’s announcement focuses on home decor, not gardening; using the color outdoors is a design idea, not an Etsy-reported garden trend.
What is Etsy’s 2026 Color of the Year?
Patina Blue is Etsy’s name for a blue-green shade inspired by the changing surface of aged copper. In its December 10, 2025 announcement, Etsy described it as reflecting “the quiet magic of change and the way materials evolve as they’re lived-in and loved.” The idea is less about a pristine, exact color match and more about a lived-in, evolving feel.
Etsy said its designation was informed by activity on its marketplace. The company reported that searches for “blue copper” had risen more than 3x, comparing the three months before November 3, 2025, with the same period a year earlier. This is Etsy search activity, not a sales increase or a measure of the broader home-decor market.
How can you use Patina Blue in your home?
For a restrained update, introduce the shade in a few smaller elements; for a stronger effect, make it a focal point. Etsy’s trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson, in an interview with Homes & Gardens, suggests bedding, cushions, and ceramics for a softer touch, or statement lighting and an accent wall for a bolder one.

Johnson recommends looking for paint with soft green or gray undertones to evoke a weathered quality. That is interview guidance, not a formal Etsy color specification; Etsy’s announcement does not provide a paint code or standardized swatch.

Etsy recommends warm metals, including copper and brass, as complements to the cool blue-green. Their warmth echoes the copper-aging inspiration behind the shade. For a quieter look, use Patina Blue in a small ceramic or textile accent and let the metal appear in a fixture or hardware; for more contrast, make the blue-green the focal point and use warm metal details around it.

Can you bring Patina Blue into a garden?
Etsy’s announcement does not discuss garden design, outdoor products, or plant choices. A blue ceramic planter, glazed pot, or small blue-green garden accent is a reasonable way to carry the palette outside, but it is a styling suggestion—not an Etsy-published gardening recommendation or evidence of a garden trend.
When choosing an outdoor piece, check its suitability for outdoor conditions and whether it has drainage appropriate for its intended use. Look at the glaze or paint in daylight, where its blue, green, or gray undertone may read differently than it does indoors. A small pot can act as an accent; a larger planter will be more of a focal point.
