Identify the slide maker and model first, check that the drawer and cabinet are square and the slides are level, then use only the adjustment points in that system’s guide.
How do I align my drawer?
- Identify the slides. Look for a maker’s name, model number, packaging, or installation paperwork. Slide types and adjustment points vary, so do not assume a screw or tab works the same way on every drawer.
- Inspect the fit before adjusting. Check whether the drawer box and cabinet opening are square, whether the side gaps and front-to-back clearances are consistent, and whether the slides sit flat and level. Look for loose fasteners or a bracket that is not seated correctly. King Slide advises checking the geometry and slide position; its installation guidance says, “The cabinet and drawer must be in perfect rectangular shape.” King Slide’s installation guidance
- Find the maker’s instructions for the exact slide. Use the documented adjustment points, not a generic online method. Accuride likewise directs installers to the applicable slide guide or data sheet for clearance requirements, which vary by slide. Accuride installation guidance
- Make a small adjustment, then test. Change one adjustment point at a time. Open and close the drawer fully to check its travel and inspect the front reveal before making another change. Accuride recommends confirming operation with a full open-and-close cycle.
- Stop if the adjustment range is not enough. Return the mechanism to its baseline setting if needed, then verify the installation dimensions against the slide specification. Do not relocate hardware or replace slides until you have checked fit and condition.
Remove the drawer only if the maker’s release instructions call for it or you cannot reach the adjustment points safely with it installed. Drawer-release methods differ by system.
Where are the adjustment points?
The following examples are specific to the systems covered in Wellborn Cabinet’s installation guide, not universal instructions. Wellborn Cabinet installation guides

Other systems may use different hardware, including a front cam for up-and-down adjustment. Consult the guide or data sheet for the installed slide before turning or moving anything.

Why is my drawer front uneven?
An uneven reveal can come from more than the drawer’s adjustment setting. Check the drawer box and cabinet opening for squareness, compare the gaps on both sides, and make sure the slides are level, flat, and securely attached. A crooked or poorly seated bracket can also affect how the drawer sits.
If the drawer cannot be brought into alignment within the documented adjustment range, check the system’s specified installation dimensions and inspect the hardware before deciding on a replacement. King Slide recommends resetting to the default setting and checking dimensions against the specification when fine adjustment does not solve the issue.

How do I adjust a soft-close drawer?
“Soft-close” describes a closing feature, not a standard adjustment layout. Find the maker and model, then follow its instructions for the adjustment points. For example, Wellborn’s full-extension soft-close undermount system uses a latch for height adjustment and a rear bracket for side-to-side adjustment. That arrangement should not be assumed for another manufacturer’s slides.

Usually, no jig is needed just to adjust an existing drawer. The two common jig types address different installation tasks:

- CABINET MUST BE AT LEAST 15" DEEP TO SUPPORT SLIDE INSTALLATION

- Built-in level helps indicate if your cabinets have been installed accurate and true
- Drawer slide jig: Positions slide members during installation. Kreg says its Drawer Slide Jig, model KHI-SLIDE, supports installation in face-frame and frameless cabinets and works with ball-bearing, epoxy-coated, and undermount slides. - Drawer front mounting jig: Holds and aligns a separate drawer front while it is attached to the drawer box. Kreg’s Drawer Front Mounting Jig, model KCS-DFMT, is intended for that clamp-align-attach task. Kreg lists drawer side clearance of 3/8 inch and drawer-front overlays up to 1 1/2 inches per side; check that your drawer’s dimensions and construction fit its stated capacity. Choose a jig only when installing slides or attaching a separate front. Neither replaces diagnosing a fit problem or following the slide maker’s adjustment instructions.
