The most common families identify a water-fill problem (4C/4E), a drainage problem (5C/5E), an unbalanced load (Ub/UE) or excess suds (SUD/Sd). Record the full code exactly as shown, find your washer’s model number and use its manual: code formats and meanings can differ between models and markets.
Before troubleshooting, check the exact code and model
Write down every character as displayed; codes such as 0E and OE, or 4C and 4E, can be easy to confuse. Find the model number on the washer’s identification label and look up the matching manual through Samsung’s washer information and error-code index or your local Samsung support site. If the display shows a code that is missing from the general list, or its format differs, rely on the model-specific manual.
A code narrows down what the washer has detected; it does not, by itself, prove which component has failed. Samsung notes that some codes—including 3E, BE2 and dC—can have different meanings on different models. Regional guidance and recommended procedures can also vary.
Common Samsung washer codes at a glance

These are common interpretations, not universal diagnoses. Samsung’s code index lists model exceptions; consult it alongside the manual for your washer.

4C, 4E or nF: check the water supply
These codes commonly mean the washer is not filling correctly. Start with the supply, not an assumed internal failure:
- Check that the water taps are fully open.
- Confirm hot and cold hoses are connected to the correct inlets and are not kinked or damaged.
- Inspect the inlet mesh filters for blockage. Turn off the water supply before removing filters, then rinse and reinstall them as directed in the manual; reconnect hoses securely and check for leaks.
- Check that the detergent dispenser drawer is not obstructed.
Samsung UK gives a water-supply pressure range of 0.5–8 bar in its 4C/4E troubleshooting guidance. Treat this as UK guidance, not a universal specification for every model or location. The same page advises cleaning the water-hose mesh filter at least twice a year. Follow your washer’s manual for its particular connections and filter procedure. Samsung US also cautions against Flood Safe hoses for the models covered by its guidance; check your exact model’s instructions before changing a hose.

4C2, 4E2 or CE: verify hot and cold connections
Samsung US describes this code family, on applicable models, as a hot/cold connection problem: cold water is detected as extremely hot. Swapped supply hoses are a common reason. Check the labels at the washer’s inlets and connect each hose to the corresponding hot or cold supply. Do not rely on a code alone to identify a fault; confirm its meaning and connection requirements in the model manual.
5C, 5E, nd or SE: check the drain path
These codes commonly indicate that water is not draining as expected. First look for a kinked, frozen or blocked drain hose, then check that the hose is installed as specified for your model. Hose placement and height requirements differ, so avoid applying instructions for another washer.

If your washer has a front-loader debris filter, cleaning it may help clear a blockage. Be prepared for retained water before opening the access panel: Samsung Ireland’s instructions describe using the emergency drain hose and a shallow container, then removing and cleaning the filter. Reinstall it securely and follow your model manual’s procedure. Samsung UK advises cleaning a front-loader debris filter 5 or 6 times a year as maintenance; this is its recommendation, not a universal requirement. Samsung Ireland notes that buttons are disabled for 3 minutes after a 5C/5E code appears.
If the code remains after checking the hose and cleaning the applicable filter, contact Samsung Repair or Support rather than repeatedly restarting the cycle. See Samsung Ireland’s 5C/5E instructions for its region-specific guidance.

- If your Samsung washer is leaking when you use it again after cleaning the original filter with a lock, consider replacing this non lock filter! Avoiding flooding in your home.
Ub, UE or U6: redistribute the load
Pause the cycle, untangle items and spread the laundry more evenly. A single bulky item or a very small load can make balancing difficult. Samsung UK suggests adding one or two towels when a load is too small, then running Rinse/Spin. If the code keeps returning with ordinary, balanced loads, consult Samsung Support instead of repeatedly forcing a spin.

The washer may pause while suds dissipate and then continue automatically. Use detergent suitable for your washer and the appropriate amount; if needed, run an extra rinse if your model’s controls allow it. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance covers this response and other common codes.

Door, overflow and electrical or component codes
Door codes such as dE or dC
Check for laundry caught between the door and seal, then close the door fully. Meanings can vary: Samsung lists dC as a door error on some models and an unbalanced-load error on others. Confirm the interpretation for your washer before taking further action.
OE/0E or OC/0C
These families commonly indicate overflow or excess water. Follow the model-specific manual and contact Samsung if the code persists; do not assume the code identifies a safe or universal DIY repair.
Voltage, motor, heater, sensor or communication codes
Samsung’s US index includes codes associated with these systems. Their meanings and appropriate checks depend on the exact model, and a displayed code alone cannot confirm a particular failed part. Stop troubleshooting and contact Samsung Support or service if one of these codes persists, a part appears damaged, or the manual directs you to arrange service.
When to stop and contact Samsung
- The code remains after the basic checks specified for your model.
- You see a damaged hose, leaking connection or other damaged part.
- The code points to an electrical, motor, heater, sensor or communication condition, or the manual calls for service.
- You cannot safely access or clean the filter, or the code’s meaning is unclear for your model.
Use Samsung’s support route for your country and have the exact model number and full displayed code ready. For a persistent code, follow the model manual rather than substituting another region’s procedure.
