Empieza buscando en los escondites oscuros y húmedos: debajo de los muebles, dentro de los armarios y en el baño. Si no lo encuentras, evita las picaduras y cierra las vías por las que puedan entrar más. Los CDC recomiendan reservar el insecticida de interior para cuando sigan apareciendo mosquitos después de reparar las mosquiteras y revisar los recipientes con agua; rociar no impide que vuelvan.
Cómo buscar al mosquito sin rociar toda la habitación
- Cierra la puerta. Así reduces la posibilidad de que el mosquito salga mientras inspeccionas. No abras ventanas si no tienen mosquitera en buen estado.
- Revisa primero los lugares donde suelen descansar. Los CDC indican que los mosquitos se esconden en sitios oscuros y húmedos, como debajo de fregaderos, en duchas, armarios, bajo los muebles o en la lavandería. En un dormitorio, empieza por debajo de la cama y los muebles, los rincones y el interior del armario.
- Inspecciona con calma. Una linterna puede ayudarte a mirar paredes, cortinas y muebles. Es una sugerencia práctica, no una técnica de búsqueda validada por los CDC. También puedes revisar ropa acumulada y otros rincones cercanos a la cama, aunque no figuran expresamente entre los escondites enumerados por el organismo.
- Si vuelve a zumbar, detente y escucha. Intenta identificar de qué lado parece venir el sonido antes de moverte o encender luces, pero no confíes en que el zumbido te indique su ubicación exacta.
- Si lo ves, elimínalo directamente. La búsqueda visual seguida de una eliminación manual es una opción inmediata si logras localizarlo. Si no aparece, no hace falta rociar la habitación indiscriminadamente: prioriza protegerte y prevenir nuevas entradas.
Los CDC describen lugares donde los mosquitos suelen descansar, pero no validan un método específico para localizar a un único mosquito que zumba por la noche.

Cuándo considerar un insecticida de interior
Si después de reparar las mosquiteras y vaciar y fregar los recipientes con agua siguen apareciendo mosquitos, los CDC indican que un aerosol o nebulizador de interior puede matar mosquitos adultos y tratar zonas donde descansan.
