WOOD Store identifies the project as featured in WOOD Issue 175, March 2007, and lists its overall dimensions as 39 inches wide × 17 inches deep × 22 inches high. The listing was updated January 16, 2024. These are the finished project dimensions, not a cut list. See the WOOD Store plan listing.

Materials and tools to plan for
A retailer’s project description identifies pine, birch plywood and cedar closet lining as the material palette, and says builders may substitute another wood. It also lists these shop tools:

This is a planning list, not a verified complete bill of materials or a requirement that every builder use every tool. The retailer does not provide the exact cut list in the available description; consult the plan for stock dimensions, quantities and construction sequence. View the project description.
Can you build it without cedar lining or the tray?
Yes. The plan retailer says the lining and tray can be left out by omitting their associated parts. That makes the cedar a project feature rather than a structural requirement stated for every version. Follow the plan’s directions for the selected version, and do not assume that removing parts changes no other dimensions or assembly details.

What cedar lining does—and does not—establish
The plan uses cedar closet lining as an interior material, but the available sources do not establish a quantified pest-control effect or guarantee that cedar alone will protect stored textiles. A National Bureau of Standards publication on aromatic red cedar closet lining advises putting away items free of moth eggs and larvae and keeping cedar storage closed except when adding or removing items. Build in safe lid support
A blanket chest lid can create a serious pinch or closing hazard. ASTM F2598-22 covers sealed storage chests, including blanket and cedar chests, and includes safety requirements and test methods for lid-support mechanisms and closures, as well as requirements concerning materials and coatings. The existence of the standard does not establish that this plan or a chest built from it complies. Choose and install hardware according to its rated use and installation instructions, and ensure the lid is safely supported rather than relying on a hinge alone. Review ASTM F2598-22.
