Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets are a suitable washer-specific option for routine front-load washer cleaning, but available manufacturer guidance does not prove that they outperform other cleaners or remove visible mold from gasket folds. What to look for in a front-load washer cleaner
Choose a product labeled for washing machines and follow both its directions and your washer’s manual. For a routine cleaning cycle, affresh is a direct fit: its manufacturer says the tablets are designed for all makes and models, including front-load and HE washers. How to use a cleaner tablet safely
- Check the washer manual and cleaner label. Confirm which cleaning cycle and cleaner types are appropriate for your model.

Why a tablet alone may not fix odor or visible gasket growth
Moisture and residue can collect around the door, drum, dispenser, and folds of a front-loader gasket. Whirlpool also warns that using more detergent than recommended can contribute to residue and odor. A tub-cleaning cycle addresses the washer interior, but it should not be treated as a substitute for wiping visible buildup from accessible gasket surfaces.
After laundry, wipe the accessible inside and outside of the rubber gasket, paying attention to folds where water or residue remains. Dry those surfaces and clean the dispenser regularly; affresh recommends weekly dispenser cleaning. If you see growth or residue that remains after wiping, do not assume a cleaner tablet has removed it. Follow the washer manufacturer’s care guidance rather than mixing cleaning products or using an unapproved treatment.

Prevent odor from returning
- Remove laundry promptly and leave the door open between loads so the drum can ventilate and dry.
- Wipe and dry accessible gasket surfaces after use, especially folds that retain moisture.
- Clean detergent dispensers regularly.
- Use HE detergent when required, and do not exceed the amount recommended for your washer and load. Excess detergent can increase residue and contribute to odor.
- Run the washer’s cleaning cycle with an approved cleaner at the interval specified by the washer manual and cleaner label.
