A tabletop dishwasher can make sense when a full-size machine will not fit, but it trades load capacity for a smaller footprint—and still needs room for its door, water connection, and drain hose. For a small kitchen, apartment, dorm, or RV, first decide whether you need a built-in water tank, a faucet connection, or both; then compare the exact model dimensions and the dishes you actually use.
Manufacturers and retailers often call these appliances “countertop” or “portable countertop” dishwashers. Those labels describe a range of designs, not one standard size or installation method.

Which tabletop dishwasher suits your setup?
If you cannot leave a faucet hookup in place
Look for a unit with a built-in tank. Midea lists a 5 L tank for the MDC17P4CWW, while also offering faucet connection through the included adapter and hose. Food Network names the Farberware FDW05ASBWHA as its countertop dishwasher pick with a water tank. Those are useful distinctions for kitchens where a direct hookup is inconvenient, but confirm the filling procedure, cycle requirements, and clearance in the model manual.

If you want a larger stated load
The Danby DDW631SDB is listed as a six-place-setting model by Tiny Kitchen Lab, which also reports 54 dB and 10.8 L per cycle from manufacturer documentation. A place-setting count is only a rough guide: it does not show how your particular dinner plates, pans, or tall glasses fit. Use the rack layout and manual to judge the load you need.
If installation flexibility matters
GE’s February 2025 announcement described the PZF560HGWBB as suitable for countertop, under-sink, or built-in installation, with a six-place-setting capacity (or 24 bar glasses). That model is no longer manufactured according to GE’s support page, so it is not a straightforward current recommendation; verify any remaining inventory, installation requirements, and service options before considering it.

If you need both water-supply choices
Midea says the MDC17P4CWW can draw from its tank or connect to a faucet with the included adapter and hose. That dual option can make it easier to adapt to different kitchens, but it does not remove the need to plan where the drain hose goes or check that your faucet is compatible.
How to tell whether one will fit
- Measure the location, not just the appliance footprint. Record available width, depth, and height, including any overhead cabinets or shelves. Compare those figures with the exact product’s published dimensions and installation instructions; the cited product information does not provide complete dimensions for every model in this guide.
- Allow for door movement and loading access. Check how far the door opens and whether it will hit a wall, backsplash, cabinet, or sink. Leave enough working room to load plates and remove the rack without moving the machine into an unsafe position.
- Plan the water supply. A tank-fed design avoids a direct faucet connection during use but requires manual filling. A faucet-connected design may avoid filling the tank, but depends on a compatible faucet and the supplied or specified adapter. Check the manual for faucet-thread compatibility and connection steps before purchase.
- Map the drain route. Confirm the drain hose can reach the sink or other approved drain point without being pinched, pulled tight, or routed where it will spill. Follow the model manual for hose placement and any required support.
- Check the rack against your real dishes. Compare plate diameter, bowl depth, glass height, and the space needed for cutlery with the rack diagrams or load examples. Midea’s published example is more useful than a place-setting number alone, but your cookware may still be too large or awkward for the rack.
- Read the complete manual before committing. Confirm installation, electrical and water requirements, detergent guidance, cycle options, and any restrictions for a counter, cabinet, or built-in location. Product labels such as “portable” do not establish that every kitchen setup is suitable.
How to compare features without overreading the numbers
Capacity is about fit as well as count
Place settings provide a quick comparison, but the load examples and rack dimensions better answer whether your plates and glasses fit. Consider how often you cook, whether you wash cookware by hand, and whether the machine can take the items you use most. A compact dishwasher is not necessarily a replacement for a full-size machine if your regular load includes large pots or serving pieces.

Tiny Kitchen Lab reports 54 dB for the Danby DDW631SDB from manufacturer documentation; GE announced 52 dBA for its PZF560HGWBB in February 2025. These figures come from different sources and are not evidence of a controlled, like-for-like noise test. The GE model is also no longer manufactured according to its support page.
Water-use claims need their original context
GE stated that the PZF560HGWBB used two gallons per wash and compared that with nine gallons for traditional handwashing. This is GE’s company-published comparison, not an independent category-wide result. Tiny Kitchen Lab reports 10.8 L per cycle for the Danby from manufacturer documentation. Do not assume these numbers represent the same test conditions or that either establishes typical use in every household.
