Compare the Whirlpool models by installation and features
These are product-page listings, not a hands-on ranking. The models differ most clearly in installation format and in which features are explicitly listed for each model.

Choose the installation type first
For a built-in kitchen installation, GX900QPPS and TU950QPXS are listed as undercounter models. GC900QPPQ is described as convertible for freestanding or built-in use; Whirlpool also mentions portable placement such as a garage or pantry. Confirm the installation instructions and surrounding conditions for the exact model before choosing a location.
Compare the features you will use
If drawer opening without bending is important, Whirlpool lists a Touch-Toe opener on GX900QPPS and GC900QPPQ. Those two listings also specify Quiet Pack sound conditioning and bag-retainer buttons. Do not assume a feature or finish listed for one model suffix applies to another model in the family. Whirlpool’s trash-compactor category page describes features such as touch controls, key-control safety locks, and anti-jam mechanisms, but the individual model page and manual are the better guides to what a particular unit includes.

Check the cabinet opening before buying
A 15-inch product width is not the complete built-in requirement. Measure the intended opening and compare the appliance’s height, depth, and width with the model’s installation instructions. Also account for door movement, toe-kick clearance, power requirements, and any clearances specified in that guide.
Whirlpool lists GX900QPPS at 33.125 in H × 15 in W × 24.375 in D, and GC900QPPQ at 34.1875 in H × 15 in W × 24.375 in D. The historical Whirlpool 2019 Q2 catalog provides planning dimensions for the model designations it covers and directs readers to installation instructions for complete requirements. Use the guide for the exact model you plan to install rather than treating an older catalog as a substitute.

Understand the capacity and compaction claims
Whirlpool describes the appliance as using a powered ram to compress household waste. Its support page says waste in a full bag may be reduced to about one-quarter of its original bulk, and its category page says repeated household loads can fit into one 30+ gallon bag. These are Whirlpool’s descriptions, not independent performance measurements. Actual results depend on what is discarded and how the compactor is used. Follow the owner’s manual for suitable waste and operation.
Whirlpool’s 2019 Q2 catalog lists 1.4 cu. ft. capacity, a 1/3-HP motor, and a 4:1 compaction ratio for GX900QPP, GC900QPP, and TU950QPX versions. Those catalog figures are for the listed designations; they should not automatically be assigned to GX900QPPS, GC900QPPQ, TU950QPXS, or other suffix variants without confirmation in the exact model’s specifications.

Plan for bags, safe use, and replacement parts
Match bags to the exact model
Whirlpool sells compactor bags for 15- and 18-inch models, including 15-inch bag packs and a 15-bag Tough Slip-N-Grip option. The Slip-N-Grip listing says it fits 15-inch compactors across Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and Kenmore brands, but size alone may not establish fit. Use the appliance model number and the bag’s compatibility information before ordering. Whirlpool’s support guidance explains how to install a trash-compactor bag and points users to the manual or appliance label to identify the model; its compactor accessories page lists bags.
Follow the safety instructions
Whirlpool describes automatic anti-jam and safety interlocks on relevant products. Its GX900QPPS product description states: “If the door is opened during operation, the compression ram automatically reverses to prevent jamming.” Treat that as a description of the stated model, not a reason to bypass an interlock. Use the controls and safety features as directed in the owner’s manual.

Find parts by model number
Whirlpool Parts lists bags, rollers, switches, gears, and other components. If you are maintaining an existing compactor, locate its rating plate and match the part number to the exact model before ordering through the Whirlpool Parts catalog.
