Before choosing either, check whether you need a complete one-piece stall or separate base, walls and enclosure, and verify every component against the manufacturer’s installation documents.
Compact shower stalls to compare
These examples show different footprints and product formats. They are not a universal ranking: the available specifications do not establish one best model for every bathroom, and product dimensions alone cannot confirm fit.

Delta’s 32 × 32-inch corner enclosure is marked discontinued. Treat it as a component reference, not a current recommendation, unless you confirm availability and compatibility directly.
Choose a product format that matches the project
One-piece stall
A one-piece unit combines the shower components into a single product format. The Oasis SH-3232 / 3SF is listed as a one-piece stall with a wall surround. Its larger dimensions may make delivery access a concern: measure the doorway and route into the bathroom before ordering, and review the product’s installation requirements.

Bundle or separate components
A bundle can package a base and enclosure together, as Delta describes for its 36 × 36-inch corner shower bundle. Other product paths start with a base and require separately selected walls and an enclosure. Confirm the precise contents of the chosen package; do not assume a listed base includes the other parts of a usable stall.
Where components are separate, compatibility is model-specific. Check the manufacturers’ documentation for the base, walls, enclosure and drain before buying, rather than relying on nominally matching dimensions alone.

Measure the room, route and plumbing before selecting a stall
- Measure the intended footprint and rough opening. Record the available width and depth, wall conditions and framing dimensions. Compare them with the selected manufacturer’s product dimensions and installation documents.
- Check the doorway and delivery path. Measure the bathroom doorway and the route from the delivery point to the installation area. This matters particularly for a one-piece stall that cannot be carried through the available access route.
- Locate the existing drain. Record its position and compare it with the base’s specified drain location. A center drain and a corner drain are not interchangeable without confirming the installation plan.
- Verify the complete package and installation requirements. Confirm which base, walls and enclosure are included, and check the selected model’s instructions for framing and installation details.
The surfaced FW Webb accessible acrylic showers installation instructions advise double-checking framing dimensions before and after securing flanges. That is model-specific guidance, not a substitute for the instructions supplied for the stall you select.
Compact dimensions do not establish accessibility
Small footprint alone does not tell you whether a shower works for someone with mobility or access needs. In Chapter 7 of its Fair Housing Act Design Manual, HUD states: “Shower stalls in covered dwelling units may be of any size or configuration and are not limited to the 36-inch x 36-inch stall shown in the diagram on the right, taken from the Guidelines, that illustrates clear floor space requirements for showers.” The manual describes 30 × 48-inch clear floor space beside the shower for covered units.

That guidance concerns covered dwelling units under the manual’s scope. It is not a blanket statement of local building-code requirements or a determination that a specific product meets an individual’s accessibility needs. Confirm the requirements that apply to the project and jurisdiction, and assess access needs separately from the stall’s footprint.

- Consider a 32 × 32-inch one-piece stall if its overall size, drain location and delivery route work for the room.
- Consider a 36 × 36-inch bundle if the included base and enclosure suit the layout and the listed corner drain aligns with the plumbing plan.
- Consider a separate compact base when you need a different size or drain configuration, but identify compatible walls and enclosure before treating it as a complete shower.
For the question homeowners often phrase as “What size shower pan can I get away with,” the useful answer is the smallest option that fits the installation dimensions, plumbing, access route and intended use—not a size chosen from nominal footprint alone.
