For runners with a long or forceful stride, start by looking for a treadmill with a 22 x 60-inch running surface. The SOLE F85 and Horizon 7.8 AT list that size; the NordicTrack X22i and Commercial 2450 also list 22 x 60-inch running areas in the cited product information. That dimension is a useful filter, not a guarantee of fit: your natural stride at your usual pace matters more than a specification alone.

What matters most for a long stride?

Running area, not the machine’s outside dimensions

Check the belt or stated running surface rather than the treadmill’s overall footprint. A wide, long deck gives you room to run, but whether it is enough depends on your height, speed, gait, and where you naturally land on the belt. NordicTrack’s buying guidance says a deck should fit the user’s natural stride and warns that a belt that is too short or narrow can force stride adjustments. That is manufacturer guidance, not an independent clinical standard: NordicTrack, “What Makes a Treadmill Good?”

No universal ideal deck length for long-stride runners is established by the cited sources. Treat 22 x 60 inches as a practical starting point for comparing these models, then assess fit at your normal running speed if you can.

Performance and feel

Match the speed ceiling and incline range to your workouts. Cushioning and control placement also affect the experience: a responsive speed adjustment can be useful during intervals, while incline and decline options can broaden workout variety. Motor horsepower figures are not established as directly comparable across these brands, so they should not be used as a definitive ranking.

Compare treadmills with a 22 x 60-inch running surface

Model Published running area Performance and fit details Points to check
SOLE F85 22 x 60 inches SOLE lists a 3.5 HP motor, a maximum speed of 12 mph, 0–15 incline, 350 lb user capacity, and a folding design. The manufacturer says workouts can be run without a subscription. See the SOLE F85 product page. Price and delivery details can change; verify the current product listing.
Horizon 7.8 AT 22 x 60 inches Horizon lists 0.5–12 mph, 0–15% incline, a 375 lb maximum user weight, 3-Zone Variable Response Cushioning, and QuickDial speed and incline controls. See the Horizon 7.8 AT product page. Horizon’s help page listed $1,999 on 2026-09-18; that is a dated listing, not a guaranteed current price. For home use, the page states lifetime frame and motor coverage, 5 years for parts, and 2 years for labor. Delivery and return terms have limitations, so check the 7.8 AT general information page.
NordicTrack X22i 22 x 60 inches Live Science’s 2026 treadmill guide identifies its long belt as useful for tall users and reports publisher testing. Listed range is 0–12 mph and -5% to 40% incline. See Live Science’s 2026 treadmill guide. Live Science notes a large footprint and premium price; the guide says listed iFit content requires a subscription. Its fit observation is editorial, not a guarantee for every tall runner.
NordicTrack Commercial 2450 22 x 60 inches on NordicTrack’s selection page NordicTrack positions the model for endurance training. Its UK product page lists up to 14 mph and incline from 12% to -3% decline; automatic guided speed and incline syncing is described with iFIT Pro membership. See the UK Commercial 2450 page and NordicTrack treadmill selection page. The cited performance and subscription details are from a UK product page. Do not assume US pricing, availability, or terms are the same.

How to choose the right treadmill for your training

  1. Check the usable running surface. Compare belt length and width with your natural stride, especially at your faster training pace. A 22 x 60-inch deck is a sensible screen among the models above, not a universal fit guarantee.
  2. Set a speed requirement. If your workouts include fast intervals, compare the model’s maximum speed with your planned pace. The F85 and 7.8 AT list 12 mph; the UK Commercial 2450 page lists up to 14 mph.
  3. Decide whether you need incline or decline. The F85 and 7.8 AT list up to 15 incline, while NordicTrack’s UK Commercial 2450 page gives a range of 12% incline to -3% decline. The X22i listing cited by Live Science gives -5% to 40% incline.
  4. Compare cushioning and controls. Horizon specifies 3-Zone Variable Response Cushioning and QuickDial controls. Consider whether the cushioning feel and the way speed or incline changes are controlled suit your running and interval routine.
  5. Check capacity and space. Compare the published user-weight limit with your needs, and measure your available floor space. Folding construction does not remove the need to confirm the treadmill’s assembled footprint and storage requirements.
  6. Account for subscriptions and ownership terms. SOLE says the F85 does not require a subscription to run workouts. NordicTrack’s guided training and automatic adjustment features are described with iFIT membership, with the cited Commercial 2450 page specifying iFIT Pro. Verify current warranty, delivery, returns, and membership conditions in your region.
  7. Compare delivered cost, not just the listed price. Prices, stock, delivery options, and promotions change. Check the current local listing and service terms before buying.

Which model is the closest match?

For straightforward running without a workout subscription

The SOLE F85 is worth considering if you want the listed 22 x 60-inch surface, up to 12 mph, and a folding design, while avoiding a subscription requirement for running workouts. Confirm its current price and delivery details on SOLE’s product page.

For cushioning and quick speed or incline adjustments

The Horizon 7.8 AT pairs the 22 x 60-inch deck with cushioning zones and QuickDial controls. Its published maximum user weight is 375 lb. Check Horizon’s current listing and home-use warranty and delivery information before deciding.

For a long-belt option highlighted for tall runners

Live Science’s 2026 guide calls out the NordicTrack X22i for tall users and reports its own testing. The same guide notes a large footprint and premium price, and its listed iFit content requires a subscription. The editorial fit observation should not substitute for checking your own stride.

For higher listed speed and incline-to-decline training

The UK Commercial 2450 listing gives a 14 mph maximum and a 12% incline to -3% decline range. Those details are UK-specific; confirm the local version’s specifications and membership terms rather than assuming they transfer to another market.
