The available product specifications do not establish one universal winner, so compare exact models rather than choosing by capacity or appearance alone.
Measure the space before comparing racks
Check the maximum width, depth and height available where the rack will stand, including room to move around it and access nearby doors or drawers. Compare those measurements with the productβs assembled dimensions, not just the shelf size.
For scale, Safco lists a commercial wire shelving starter unit that is 36 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with a maximum height of 72 inches. Those dimensions may suit a pantry or utility area but can be too large for a compact home kitchen. Confirm the dimensions for the exact model before buying.
Choose a finish for the environment
Finish matters where shelves may encounter water, steam or frequent cleaning. A wire-shelving specification sheet from Kitchenall describes chrome shelving for dry environments and zinc-epoxy shelving for wet or dry environments. It also warns that peeled coating can lead to rust in wet conditions. Because that sheet is older, check the current manufacturer guidance for the specific rack and finish you are considering.

Compare adjustability and assembly
Shelf spacing determines whether the rack can accommodate the containers and equipment you intend to store. Safco says shelves on its cited unit adjust in 1-inch increments. A 2018 Storage Products Group catalog also describes 1-inch shelf-position increments and tool-free assembly for its shelving. These details apply to those products, not to wire racks generally.
Check the assembly instructions and the rackβs footprint as well as its advertised adjustability. Commercial shelving can be substantially larger than a household kitchen needs; make sure the assembled unit can be positioned and used safely in the intended space.

Read the load rating for the exact model
Do not treat a rating from one rack as a general capacity for wire shelving. Safco lists a maximum of 500 lb per shelf and 2,000 lb for the complete unit for its 36-by-18-inch commercial starter unit. These are manufacturer ratings for that product; follow its directions and do not apply the figures to a different size, brand or configuration.
When comparing products, look for both per-shelf and total-unit limits, and check any conditions or instructions attached to the rating. A larger number alone does not make a rack the better fit if its dimensions, finish or intended use do not match your kitchen.

Verify certification and intended use
Certifications are model- and use-specific. Safco describes the cited unit as certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 2 for dry-storage and heated-environment use. Seville Classics also lists an NSF-certified shelving collection, but that does not establish certification for every rack it sells. Verify the certification and listed application for the exact model you plan to use.
