The reference names models 134, 134B, 134D, 134FL, 135-A, 142, 142B and 122B. Record the full model designation, including its suffix, from the appliance’s identification marking; similar-looking units may not share baskets, stems, lids or electrical components. How should you compare a used percolator?
Use the listing photos and seller’s answers to assess the specific appliance. These checks help you compare candidates; they are not test-derived scores.
- Identity: Ask for a clear photo of the bottom identification marking and confirm the complete model number and suffix.
- Capacity: Check the marking or model-specific documentation rather than assuming capacity from appearance.
- Completeness: Confirm the basket, pump stem, spreader or basket cover, lid and power cord are present. Ask for photos of removable parts as well as the assembled appliance.
- Electrical and physical condition: Inspect photos of the cord, plug or connector, base, handles, knobs and body. Look for fraying, damage, corrosion, cracks or signs of leakage, particularly near electrical components.
- Replacement-part fit: Verify that a part is listed for the exact model and confirm the fit with the seller before purchase. The reference describes used cords, baskets, pump stems, lid and top components, base components, and thermostat or heating-related parts as recurring searches; availability varies, and a part advertised for one 134- or 142-series unit should not be assumed to fit another. What safety checks matter before using one?
Do not use a percolator with damaged wiring, a damaged plug or connector, or leakage near electrical components. If you suspect an electrical fault, have the appliance assessed by a qualified repair professional rather than attempting to use it. Check whether the appliance matches a recalled model
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s 1980 notice covers approximately 6,800 recalled Regal Ware electric coffee makers—not all Regal Ware products or vintage percolators generally. The affected 10-cup stainless-steel models are Regal Ware K7591 and JCPenney 784-3071, made from August 1979 through April 1980. The notice identifies date codes from 08017911 through 04308011 and says repaired units had an underlined date code. Check the appliance’s identifying markings and repair status against the CPSC recall notice; appearance alone does not establish whether a particular unit was repaired.
Do not transfer modern-model instructions to vintage units
The Farberware FCP240 is a modern appliance, not evidence that vintage Superfast models are currently available or that their parts are interchangeable. Its manual applies to the FCP240 specifically: it describes operation from a standard household 120-volt AC outlet, automatic switching to keep-warm after brewing, and cautions against immersion; it says the body must not go in the dishwasher and that the appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. Follow the FCP240 instruction manual only for that model. Use the correct manual for a vintage appliance rather than assuming its care or service instructions are the same.

What does “vintage percolator” mean for brewing and capacity?
Electric percolators appeared around 1900, and safety devices, automatic shutoff and keep-warm features helped shape the standard household form by the 1950s. Their reputation for flavor has long been debated: coffee trade organizations and coffee lovers criticized circulation brewing for harming taste and aroma, while manufacturers promoted convenience and modernity. Do not use information about a different vintage line to fill gaps in an electric model’s specifications. For example, the historical Revere Ware reference concerns a stovetop percolator line: catalogs document 4-, 6- and 8-cup sizes, with a 10-cup size added later. When is a modern alternative the better choice?
If current availability, a model-specific manual and clearly stated operating and care instructions matter more to you than vintage provenance, consider the modern Farberware FCP240 instead. It is a distinct new-appliance alternative, not a vintage Superfast model; its manual and features should not be taken as evidence about the operation, safety or parts compatibility of an older percolator.
