There is no independently verified “best” Sunlight dish detergent across all markets. For hand-washing in South Africa, Sunlight Regular Degreasing Dishwashing Liquid is the clearest general-purpose option documented by the brand; Extra Nature is an alternative that lists aloe vera. For an automatic dishwasher, choose a Sunlight product explicitly labeled for machine use—not hand dishwashing liquid. Formulas and product names vary by country, so check the local package.
Which Sunlight detergent should you choose?
Start with how you wash dishes, then match the product to the variant and package available in your market. The official South African product pages document hand-washing liquids, while Unilever South Africa’s broader portfolio also lists automatic-dishwashing products. They are different product types, not interchangeable versions of the same detergent.

Is Sunlight dish detergent good for grease?
Sunlight South Africa describes its Regular liquid as a degreasing hand dishwashing detergent, and its directions say warmer water helps degrease. That supports identifying it as a grease-focused hand-washing option, but it is a manufacturer description—not a controlled comparison proving it outperforms other Sunlight variants or competing products.

Unilever’s 2024 article calls RhamnoClean a “100% natural, biodegradable and renewable” biosurfactant and says the technology offers performance benefits. These are Unilever’s characterizations of an ingredient and product range, not an independent lifecycle assessment or a guarantee that every Sunlight product removes every kind of grease. No consistent, comparable current price-per-wash data is established here. If cost is the deciding factor, compare local prices for the same intended use and calculate cost per volume; a larger pack or refill is not automatically cheaper per wash.
Can you use Sunlight hand dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher?
No: do not put hand dishwashing liquid in an automatic dishwasher. Use a product explicitly labeled for automatic dishwashers, following its package directions. Is Sunlight Extra Nature suitable for sensitive hands?
Extra Nature’s South African page names aloe vera and describes the product in terms of hand gentleness. That is product positioning, not proof that it is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, or appropriate for a diagnosed skin condition. The listed ingredients include perfume and isothiazolinones. If you have a known sensitivity, check the full ingredient list on the package in your market and follow advice from a qualified health professional.

How to use Sunlight Regular for hand washing
- Fill a sink with warm water.
- Add a squeeze of the liquid under running water and mix it into foam.
- Wash the dishes. Sunlight says warmer water helps degrease.
These are the directions on the South African Regular product page. For eye contact, that page says to rinse immediately with water; if swallowed, it says to drink plenty of milk and seek medical advice. What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The cited manufacturer pages establish product categories, some regional variants, package formats, directions, and manufacturer claims. They do not establish a ranked winner through an independent controlled comparison of current Sunlight products. Unilever’s article also claims that its premium range provides 24-hour protection against the return of harmful bacteria and a seven-day shield against fungal growth in sponges.
