Miele pairs it with the powered, height-adjustable SEB 228 Electro Plus floorbrush, which the company says is designed for deep carpet cleaning across different pile depths. For pet hair on short-pile carpet, consider the Guard L1 Cat & Dog instead: its TurboTeQ brush has a more specific short-pile use case.
That recommendation is based on Miele’s stated specifications and intended uses, not independent comparative carpet-cleaning tests. The key buying decision is the floorhead: a powered height-adjustable brush is not the same as a turbo brush.
Which Miele is best for carpet?
Choose the Guard L1 Electro if carpet is your main flooring, particularly if you have deeper pile or a large carpeted area. Miele lists the SEB 228 Electro Plus powered brush, which is height adjustable for different carpet pile depths and described as especially wide for quick, deep cleaning. The Guard L1 Cat & Dog is the more targeted pick for pet owners with short-pile carpet. Miele specifies a STB 305-3 TurboTeQ brush for animal hair and stubborn soiling, and an Active AirClean filter intended to neutralize odors. The company’s stated carpet use is short pile, so this is not evidence that it will match the Electro’s powered brush on deep carpet. Why the floorhead matters more than the model name
Guard L1 Electro: powered brush for carpet depth and coverage
The Electro’s SEB 228 Electro Plus is a powered floorbrush, and Miele says its height adjustment adapts it to different pile depths. That makes it the clearest fit in the current lineup when carpet cleaning is the priority. Miele also lists an automatic suction mode and a HEPA AirClean filter. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent measurements of pickup or filtration performance.
Guard L1 Cat & Dog: turbo brush for short-pile pet hair
The Cat & Dog’s TurboTeQ brush is a different tool from the Electro’s powered floorbrush. Miele specifically describes it as effective for removing animal hair from short-pile carpet. If your home has deep pile or extensive carpeting, don’t infer from the pet-focused name that this model’s included brush has the same role as the SEB 228.

Mixed floors
Miele lists an AllTeQ floorhead and other floorhead options in the Guard L1 range. If your home combines hard floors and carpet, compare the exact included head for the model you are considering. An all-floor head may suit mixed surfaces, but the available product information does not establish it as the strongest option for deep carpet.

What to check before buying
- Carpet pile and area: For deeper pile or broad carpeted rooms, prioritize the Electro’s powered, height-adjustable brush. For pet hair on short pile, the Cat & Dog’s TurboTeQ is the specifically described match.
- Included accessories: Miele lists the Electro with the SEB 228 Electro Plus and SBD 365-3 AllTeQ, and the Cat & Dog with the STB 305-3 TurboTeQ and SBD 365-3 AllTeQ. Confirm the included equipment on the precise listing before purchase.
- Bags and filters: Miele identifies TU HyClean Air bags for both models. The Electro page lists a HEPA AirClean filter; the Cat & Dog page lists an Active AirClean filter. Verify compatibility by exact model number before ordering consumables or optional accessories.
- Seller and availability: The Electro’s Miele page says it is sold exclusively through authorized retail partners. Check the retailer and the current product terms before ordering.
Should you buy a discontinued Complete C3?
Miele says the Complete C3 series has been discontinued and presents Guard L1 as its successor. That does not mean every C3 specification, floorhead, bag, or accessory transfers to a Guard L1—or that every remaining C3 unit is unsuitable. Treat a C3 as a model-specific legacy purchase and verify the exact machine, condition, warranty, included brush, and consumable compatibility with the seller.
Miele’s historical Complete C3 manual distinguishes among brushes: it describes the SEB 217-3 for intensive cleaning of heavy-duty textile flooring, including ground-in dirt and high-traffic areas; the SEB 228 adds height adjustment for different carpet heights and is described as suitable for larger areas; and the Turbo Comfort STB 205-3 is described for low carpet and textile flooring. These are manual descriptions, not guarantees of current stock or fit. The Complete C3 SoftCarpet was a separate, model-specific legacy variant: Miele said its soft-carpet power setting and SoftCarpet Electro Plus brush were intended to clean soft carpet while maintaining its look and feel. How to make the choice
- Choose the carpet use case: For carpet-first cleaning and different pile depths, start with the Guard L1 Electro. For pet hair on short-pile carpet, consider the Guard L1 Cat & Dog.
- Check the exact floorhead: Confirm whether the listing includes the SEB 228 Electro Plus, TurboTeQ, or another head; don’t assume the brush from a product-family name.
- Match consumables and connections: Use the exact model number to confirm bags, filters, and any optional brush compatibility.
- For C3, verify the individual unit: Check its condition, seller’s warranty, brush, and connection system rather than treating the discontinued series as one interchangeable model.
Miele’s US vacuum model guide provides additional range context. For the carpet-specific decision, however, the available evidence supports a best-fit recommendation based on Miele’s own specifications; it does not establish an independent comparative winner.
