Choose a style your family likes, then verify its dimensions and mounting hardware before buying. A decorative knob is not a drawer lock or a dresser anchor: those are separate safety measures.
What kinds of kids’ drawer pulls are available?
Options range from simple round furniture knobs to colorful shapes and themed designs. For example, Pottery Barn Kids lists traditional and classic round knobs, while Fulfords Creations offers handmade oak knobs in a space theme, with designs including a rocket, astronaut, UFO, planet, moon, and shooting star. These examples show the range of styles; they do not establish that one design is easier for a child to use or more durable than another.
Choose a theme to suit the room and the caregiver’s preference, but treat the product’s stated material and dimensions—not its appearance—as the basis for evaluating construction and fit.
How to check whether a pull will fit
Drawer hardware is not universally interchangeable. Before ordering, compare the pull’s mounting requirements with the specific drawer or cabinet.

- Hole diameter or spacing: Check the diameter of a single mounting hole or the center-to-center spacing of multiple holes.
- Screw length: Confirm the supplied screw can pass through the drawer front and engage the knob securely without being too long.
- Knob depth and projection: Check how far the knob extends from the drawer and whether that works with nearby doors, walls, or other furniture.
- Compatibility: Read the seller’s compatibility statement and dimensions. Do not assume a listing for one furniture collection applies to another.
Pottery Barn Kids lists its Traditional Round Knob as 1.25 inches in diameter and 1 inch deep, with a required hole diameter of 0.39 inch. Its Classic Round Knob is listed as 1.25 inches in diameter and 0.5 inch deep. The page says the hardware is compatible with dresser drawers, cabinets, and desks in the brand’s Catalina, Kendall, and Cameron collections; that is a brand-specific compatibility claim, not a universal fit guarantee. Material and construction: what to verify
Use the product listing to confirm the stated material and mounting details. Do not infer strength or durability from a pull’s style or finish. If a knob is already installed, check that it is intact and securely attached; replace damaged or loose hardware rather than continuing to use it.

A 2018 CPSC recall notice concerned specific glass and ceramic drawer knobs that could break or shatter when pulled and cause lacerations. The recall was product-specific, not a finding that all glass or ceramic knobs are unsafe. CPSC instructed consumers to stop using the identified recalled knobs and remove them. If you own older hardware, compare it with the recall notice: CPSC recall notice for certain TJX drawer knobs.
Decorative pulls, drawer locks, and dresser anchors do different jobs
A themed pull changes how a drawer looks and is opened; it does not restrict access to the contents or prevent furniture from tipping. Use safety products for the hazards they are designed to address.

Restrict access to hazardous contents
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends safety latches or locks on drawers in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas to help keep children away from medicines, cleaners, laundry detergent, matches, lighters, knives, and other sharp objects. Keep even products with child-resistant packaging locked away and out of reach. CPSC also cautions: “Remember, too, that no device is completely childproof; determined toddlers have been known to overcome or disable them.” See its Childproofing Your Home guidance.
As one separate access-control option, KidCo says its S342 sliding cabinet and drawer lock fits handles or knobs 2 to 7 inches apart and requires no screws or adhesive. Check the product’s fit and instructions for your furniture: KidCo sliding cabinet locks.

Reduce tip-over risk
CPSC advises anchoring dressers and other furniture to the floor or attaching them to a wall. Children may climb on furniture, fall against it, or pull themselves up on it, creating a tip-over hazard. A decorative pull does not replace an anchor. Follow the furniture maker’s installation instructions and CPSC’s furniture safety guidance.
Delta Children describes a specific three-drawer dresser with an interlocking drawer system and a tip-over restraint, says it was tested to meet current ASTM F2057 requirements, and instructs users to attach the dresser to the wall. Do children’s drawer knobs have special safety requirements?
Whether a product is classified as a children’s product depends on factors such as intended use, marketing, and product characteristics, according to CPSC. The agency says furnishings intended primarily for children may be children’s products, which require applicable third-party testing and a written Children’s Product Certificate. A playful theme alone does not determine how a particular drawer pull is classified. See CPSC’s Children’s Products guidance.
