The best UV-curable adhesive depends on the materials, whether curing light can reach the full bondline, the bond’s required flexibility or toughness, and the adhesive’s specified light source. There is no universal winner: manufacturer examples such as Henkel LOCTITE AA 352 and Dymax light-curable bonding materials serve different applications, and their claims are not independent head-to-head test results.
How to choose a UV-curable adhesive
Start with the joint, not the product name. Identify the substrates, determine whether the curing light can reach the entire bondline, and decide whether the finished joint needs to be rigid, flexible, impact-resistant, or sealed. Then confirm that the adhesive and curing equipment are specified to work together.
| What to check | Why it matters | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Substrates | Adhesive compatibility varies by material and formulation. | Check the individual product data sheet for each material in the joint. Henkel lists AA 352 for glass, metals, and ceramics; Dymax describes bonding materials for glass, metal, and plastics. |
| Light access | Light must reach the bondline for a light-activated cure to proceed there. | Assess whether the parts transmit the relevant light and whether any section is opaque or shadowed. Henkel identifies light transmission as a selection factor and describes dual-cure products for opaque substrates. |
| Cure source and setup | Products may call for UV or UV/visible light, and process conditions affect cure. | Use the product’s specified spectrum and process requirements. Henkel says AA 352 cure rate depends on lamp intensity, distance, required cure depth or bondline gap, and substrate light transmission. |
| Bond behavior | A rigid joint, flexible bond, or impact-resistant connection may call for different formulations. | Match the stated bond properties to the application; Henkel’s catalogue distinguishes rigid and flexible needs. |
| Safety and handling | Adhesive formulations and light-curing equipment each have specific precautions. | Read the current formulation SDS and curing equipment manual, and confirm that eye protection suits the equipment wavelength. |
Will UV adhesive cure through an opaque part?
Do not assume it will. If an opaque component, joint geometry, or other obstruction blocks light from part of the bondline, a light-only adhesive may not cure throughout that area. Henkel describes dual-cure products for opaque substrates, and Dymax says some bonding materials have a secondary heat or activator cure for shadowed regions. These are formulation-specific options, not a guarantee that any dual-cure adhesive will suit a particular joint.
Before selecting one, check the product instructions for the secondary cure method and confirm that the process is practical for the assembly. Dymax notes that features such as See-Cure apply to some products; that feature should not be taken as a portfolio-wide property.

UV-curable adhesive is a category, not one chemistry
“UV glue” can refer to different adhesive chemistries and cure mechanisms. LOCTITE’s technical manual describes light-cure acrylates, cyanoacrylates, silicones, epoxies, and anaerobics. Some formulations combine light curing with another mechanism so that areas not reached by light can still cure. The label alone therefore does not establish compatibility, flexibility, or the right curing conditions.
Light-curing also does not always mean UV alone. Manufacturer materials include UV and visible-light formulations, so use the spectrum specified for the particular adhesive rather than assuming a general-purpose UV lamp will work.

Manufacturer-documented examples
Henkel LOCTITE AA 352
Henkel describes AA 352 as a transparent, high-viscosity, acrylic-based adhesive that may be UV-, heat-, or activator-cured. The manufacturer lists glass, metals, and ceramics as suitable substrates and describes the product for tough bonding, sealing, or coating applications involving metal and glass. Henkel also claims resistance to humidity and chemicals, as well as vibration and impact forces. These are manufacturer descriptions, not comparative test results; consult the current AA 352 product information to determine whether its requirements fit the actual assembly.
Dymax light-curable bonding materials
Dymax describes a portfolio of adhesives for bonding glass, metal, and plastic components. Some formulations offer secondary heat or activator curing for shadowed areas, while features such as See-Cure are stated to apply to some products. Because this is a portfolio rather than one directly comparable SKU, select and verify a specific formulation using Dymax’s bonding materials information and its product documentation.

These examples are not ranked against each other. The available manufacturer descriptions do not establish an adhesive that is superior across substrates, joint designs, and cure setups.
Set up and verify the cure process
- Read the current product data sheet. Confirm compatible substrates, cure spectrum, any secondary cure method, and the stated process requirements.
- Check access to the bondline. Consider part transparency, joint depth or gap, and any shadows that could prevent light from reaching adhesive.
- Match the equipment to the adhesive. Follow the product’s specified light source and process conditions; do not assume a lamp is suitable based only on its description as a UV lamp.
- Follow the equipment and formulation safety instructions. Read the adhesive SDS and equipment manual, and use eye protection appropriate to the curing source.
- Validate the intended assembly. For critical applications, confirm the process with the supplier and application testing rather than treating a cured-looking surface as proof that the complete bondline has cured.
Henkel specifically identifies intensity, distance, cure depth or bondline gap, and substrate light transmission as factors affecting AA 352’s cure rate. Those variables are a reason to verify the actual setup, not a basis for applying one product’s cure assumptions to other adhesives.

Safety around UV-curing equipment
Dymax’s UV Light Safety Guide warns: “Warning! UV Emitter Light Hazard (Do not look directly at light)” and identifies eye protection as required. Follow the guide alongside the formulation’s SDS and the equipment manual; the equipment warning does not replace product-specific handling guidance.
Henkel lists LOCTITE UV Safety Glasses, but that listing does not establish suitability for every curing source. Confirm that protective eyewear is appropriate for the equipment’s wavelength.

Why there is no single “best” product
Manufacturer catalogues and product pages can help narrow choices by substrate, light access, cure method, and intended bond behavior. They do not, by themselves, show that one adhesive outperforms another under the same test conditions. Treat named products as candidates to check against the actual joint and process—not as an independently tested ranking.
