It is a freestanding ceramic space heater—not a permanently installed, hardwired electric baseboard heater. Its thermostat, three heat settings, timer, and adjustable louvers help you manage comfort and operation, but they do not establish lower electricity use than another resistance heater producing the same heat.
What is the best Lasko baseboard heater?
The Lasko CL22100 Low Profile Baseboard Space Heater is the model to consider if “baseboard” describes the shape you want. Lasko presents it for indoor spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices. Its portable design makes it a supplemental room heater; it is not a replacement for a built-in baseboard system or a whole-home heating installation.
Lasko lists coverage of up to 300 square feet. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed comfort result: room layout, insulation, drafts, ceiling height, and other heating conditions affect performance. The manufacturer’s product page lists a three-year limited warranty; check the live page for current terms and availability.

The low profile and 5.8-pound listed weight may make the unit easier to place or move than a fixed heater, but it still needs a safe location with the clearance required for portable heaters. Use the model-specific instructions for setup and operation rather than assuming that another Lasko heater’s directions apply.
Is the CL22100 energy-efficient?
“Efficient” depends on what you mean. A thermostat can reduce unnecessary runtime by cycling heat to maintain a chosen temperature, while multiple settings and a timer give you ways to limit operation. Those controls may help manage comfort and use, but the available product information does not show that the CL22100 consumes less electricity than other electric resistance heaters for the same heat output.

To estimate the cost of running a resistance heater, multiply its power in kilowatts by the hours it runs and your electricity price per kilowatt-hour. For example, a 1,500 W setting is 1.5 kW; the actual cost depends on runtime and your local rate. A thermostat may cause the heater to cycle rather than draw its rated power continuously, so a calculation using full rated power for every hour is only a maximum-use estimate for that setting.
When a portable resistance heater makes sense
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America guide says electric resistance room heaters are not typically cost-effective for whole-house heating in average- or larger-sized homes with minimal or average insulation. They may make sense as supplemental heat in an infrequently used room, or in a very well-insulated home; local utility rates also affect the economics.

For whole-home heating, DOE says today’s heat pumps can reduce electricity used for heating by up to 75% compared with electric resistance heating, including baseboard heaters. This is a broad comparison, not a guaranteed saving for a particular home, climate, system, or bill. A heat pump is an installed heating option, not a like-for-like portable-heater purchase.

Portable electric heaters need careful placement even when the manufacturer lists built-in safety features. CPSC reports an average of 1,600 fires, 70 deaths, and 150 injuries per year from 2020 to 2022 involving portable heaters, including electric space heaters; those figures are not specific to Lasko or the CL22100.

- Keep the heater at least three feet from drapes, furniture, bedding, and other combustible materials.
- Plug it directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip.
- Turn the heater off when sleeping.
- Follow Lasko’s guidance to use a 120 V wall outlet and clean the heater regularly to maintain airflow.
- Consult the CL22100 manual for model-specific setup, operation, and maintenance instructions.
Lasko lists a tip-over switch, dual overheat protection, cool-touch housing, and ETL listing. These are product features, not substitutes for safe clearance, outlet practices, or supervision.
