To serve Guinness Draught from a keg at home, you need more than a refrigerator: the keg coupler, gas setup and stout faucet must suit the keg and the pour. You can buy a dedicated stout kegerator or adapt an existing kegerator with a Guinness-compatible conversion kit. The right choice depends on the parts included, available space and whether the system fits your needs—not on a demonstrated difference in pour quality.
What a Guinness keg setup needs
Guinness’s US serving guidance explains that nitrogen helps create the tight, creamy head associated with Draught. Product listings for Guinness setups identify stout faucets and U-system couplers, alongside nitrogen dispensing hardware. Check the exact components in the listing: the name “Guinness kit” alone does not establish what is included.
Serving guidance is separate from product performance evidence. Guinness recommends starting with a clean, dry glass, holding it at 45 degrees and filling it three-quarters full. Dedicated option: Beverage-Air BM23B-GUIN
Kegerators.com lists the BM23B-GUIN with a chrome stout faucet, U-system coupler and double-gauge nitrogen regulator. Its external dimensions are 24 × 37.5 × 28.5 inches. The listing says it can accommodate one half-barrel keg or two sixth-barrel/homebrew kegs, and explicitly states that the nitrogen tank is not included. Conversion option: fit a kit to an existing kegerator
A conversion can make sense if you already own a compatible refrigerator and want to avoid replacing it. Kegco lists Guinness conversion kits and draft-tower options. One BeverageFactory single-tap listing specifies a stainless contact stout faucet, U-system keg coupler, dual-gauge nitrogen regulator and 22 cu ft nitrogen tank. Kegworks describes a partial kit containing a specialty nitro faucet, Guinness U-system coupler and nitrogen tank adapter, with the tank sold separately. Its listing specifies a 75% nitrogen/25% CO2 blend. Treat that blend as retailer guidance, and confirm suitable gas and pressure with the equipment instructions and a local gas supplier. Check fit, included parts and ongoing setup needs
- Confirm keg compatibility. The listed Guinness setup uses a U-system coupler. Verify that the kit and keg match before ordering.
- Check the gas equipment. Identify the regulator, tank adapter and any other gas components included. Do not assume the tank comes with the kit.
- Measure the refrigerator. For an existing unit, check interior height and width, keg clearance, and the route for the line and tower. A listed external dimension for a dedicated unit does not tell you whether a keg will fit inside your current refrigerator.
- Verify the number of taps and lines. If you want to keep another beer on tap, check whether the kit and refrigerator can support the additional dispensing components.
- Confirm the current listing. Retail inventory, bundled parts and model availability can change; compare the seller’s live description with the components you need.
When a can-based Guinness system is a better fit
If you do not want a keg, Guinness offers can-based alternatives. Nitrosurge pairs a device with compatible Nitrosurge cans; Guinness says its ultrasonic transducer creates the surge and that the device’s vibrations and flow patterns are designed exclusively for those cans.
