Then check cookware compatibility, cooking-zone layout, controls, and the appliance’s electrical and installation requirements. Induction can transfer heat efficiently and respond quickly, but no single model is established as a current winner here; compare up-to-date independent tests, specifications, price, and availability before buying.
How induction cooking works
An induction cooktop uses an electromagnetic field to heat compatible cookware directly. As ENERGY STAR explains, “Induction cooking tops instead consist of an electromagnetic coil that creates a magnetic field when supplied with an electric current.” The pan becomes the main source of heat; the cooktop does not heat food by relying on a flame or a conventional glowing burner element.
That direct heating can make temperature changes feel responsive and can bring water to a boil faster, though results depend on the appliance, cookware, starting temperature, and test conditions. The U.S. Department of Energy reported that Consumer Reports testing found boiling was 20–40% faster on the tested induction cooktops than on the tested gas and traditional electric cooktops. That test finding is not a guarantee for every model or kitchen.
Efficiency figures are useful for comparing how heat reaches a pan, not for predicting a household’s utility bill. ENERGY STAR’s 2021–2022 Emerging Technology Award information estimates that induction transfers about 85% of heating energy to cookware, compared with about 75–80% for conventional electric resistance and about 32% for gas. The same page describes induction as about 5–10% more efficient than conventional electric resistance and about three times more efficient than gas. Actual energy costs depend on rates, cooking habits, and the appliances being compared. ENERGY STAR’s induction cooking tops information and the Department of Energy’s overview explain these comparisons.
#1 Best Overall
- HIGH EFFICIENCY - ChangBERT Induction cooktop offers 9 preset power levels (200-1800W) and 18 preset temperature settings (120-460℉, 20F per level). With an 83% energy efficiency rating, the induction cooker is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves, providing quick heat-up and faster cooking times.

This dependable performance sets it apart from others.
- LARGE COOKING AREA - Features an expanded magnetic coil design that optimizes the winding structure to enhance the transfer of electromagnetic energy directly to the cookware, significantly improving heating efficiency and ensuring more even heat distribution across the bottom of the cookware.
- NSF CERTIFIED & COMMERCIAL GRADE - UL commercial standard 197, completely ETL & NSF approved. It meets industry durability standards, passing a drop test with an impact of 1.5 ft lbs. Designed for large-volume usage, it is ideal for commercial and professional settings such as restaurants, industrial kitchens, and other catering services.
- EASY TO CONTROL & CLEAN - The control buttons with solid tactile response make operation intuitive and precise. With simple and clear display, the Key-Press-Control Panel provides clear visibility and easy control, even with gloves or wet hands. With no open flame or heating element, food does not burn onto the glass cooktop, making it easy to clean greasy dirt.
Choose the right appliance format
Decide where and how the appliance will be installed before comparing individual features. A portable unit, a built-in cooktop, and an induction range serve different kitchen layouts and may have different electrical and space requirements.
| Format | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Portable induction cooktop | A standalone option for a countertop or another suitable surface. Confirm the specific unit’s dimensions, voltage, amperage, and connection instructions. |
| Built-in cooktop | Fits into a countertop opening. Measure the available space and check the manufacturer’s cutout, clearance, and electrical requirements before purchase. |
| Induction range | Combines a cooktop with an oven. Check the installation type, available space, and electrical requirements for the complete appliance. |
Do not assume that appliances in the same format share the same electrical connection. ENERGY STAR product information includes attributes such as voltage, amperage, installation type, cooking zones, and control type; use the individual model’s specifications and manual to confirm what your kitchen needs. - PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Check cookware compatibility before buying
Induction requires cookware that responds to a magnetic field. Put a refrigerator magnet against the bottom of each pan: if it sticks, the pan is a useful candidate for induction. Cast iron, magnetic stainless steel, and enameled cast iron are common compatible types, but the magnet check is more reliable than a material label alone. Flat-bottomed cookware is also a practical choice for stable contact with the cooking surface.
Check your existing pots and pans before budgeting for replacements; you may already have compatible cookware. ENERGY STAR describes the magnet check and common suitable cookware in its electric cooking products guidance.

Compare features that affect everyday use
- Cooking zones: Match the number and size of zones to the pans you use most often. Consider whether your usual cookware can fit without crowding.
- Controls: Compare control type and the available settings for the specific model. ENERGY STAR records control type as a product attribute, but the best arrangement depends on how you cook and interact with the appliance.
- Safety functions: The Department of Energy says many induction stoves detect whether a pot or pan is present and may shut off when cookware is removed or absent. These features are not universal; check the model specifications and manual rather than treating them as guaranteed.
- Dimensions and installation: Measure the space and confirm installation instructions, clearances, voltage, amperage, and circuit requirements with the model documentation before ordering or arranging installation.
- Ownership evidence: Compare current independent performance tests, warranty terms, reliability information, price, and local availability. The general efficiency and speed figures above do not establish which particular product is best.
Understand surface heat and care
Induction does not mean the glass surface stays cool in every circumstance. The pan is heated directly, but hot cookware can transfer residual heat to the glass. Surface temperature and available safety features vary by appliance, so follow the model’s manual and heed any hot-surface indicators.
Glass and ceramic surfaces can scratch or crack. ENERGY STAR advises avoiding abrasive scrubbing and taking care not to drop or drag heavy cookware across the surface. Its care and cookware guidance is a useful starting point, but the appliance manual controls for model-specific instructions.

Check rebates and local requirements
The Department of Energy’s Home Upgrades page describes an ENERGY STAR-certified induction cooktop as potentially eligible for a High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate of up to $840, or for a Home Owner Managing Energy Savings Rebate in qualifying projects. This is not a guarantee that funding is currently available or that a particular buyer or product qualifies. Before relying on a rebate, confirm current program status, funding, location, and product requirements with the official program administrator. See DOE’s Home Upgrades information.
