The right choice depends on whether you need a fixed convection panel, a portable mica heater, or an infrared panel—and on the room, electrical connection, controls, and installation constraints. A slim panel is not automatically more energy-efficient: for electric resistance heat, running cost depends on power use, operating time, electricity rates, thermostat cycling, and which heating system it replaces.
What counts as a flat panel heater?
“Panel heater” describes more than one heating design. The name alone does not tell you how the unit transfers heat, whether it is portable, or how it must be installed. Compare the product’s stated heating method and exact model rather than relying on its shape.
- Wall-mounted convection panels heat air circulating around the unit. Envi describes its Smart Envi products as wall-mounted convection heaters.
- Mica panel heaters use a mica heating element. De’Longhi’s HMP1500 listing describes a model that can stand on the floor or be mounted on a wall.
- Infrared panels deliver radiant heat rather than relying on the same convection approach. Herschel discusses radiant testing for its Comfort range; its information should not be treated as a direct comparison with convection or mica heaters.
These types are not interchangeable in every room or installation. Check the manufacturer’s description, manual, and mounting instructions for the specific model.

The products below are candidates for different use cases, not a ranked “best” list. Manufacturer specifications and room-area figures are not independent performance tests. Models, availability, and specifications can change, so confirm them before buying.

How to choose a panel heater for a room
1. Start with the room and the heater’s rated output
Compare wattage with the manufacturer’s room-size guidance, but treat that guidance as a starting point rather than a guarantee. The heating requirement also depends on the room and building; the information available here does not independently validate a sizing calculation. If the heater is intended as supplemental heat, consider how it will work alongside the existing system rather than assuming it can replace it.
2. Check the electrical connection before comparing features
Some listed Envi options are plug-in and others hardwired. Confirm the exact model’s voltage, connection, and circuit requirements, and whether installation requires an electrician. For a fixed or hardwired unit, verify the location and applicable local electrical rules before purchase.

- QUIET HEATER - Best for medium and large rooms, the 1500-watt Mica Panel Heater quickly delivers gentle heat that won’t stir up dust, pollen, or dander. Customize it to your needs with easy-to-use controls, an adjustable thermostat & two settings.
- MAXIMIZE EFFICIENCY - This De’Longhi heater converts 100% of the electricity used into heat when it's switched on, with no wasted energy. That means it delivers continuous heat while raising the room temperature to your desired setting.
- BUILT-IN SAFETY - Features include a thermal shutoff to prevent overheating, an internal tip-over switch that automatically turns the unit off & a standby setting that turns on the heater when temperatures drop below 41 to help prevent frozen pipes.
- SLIM DESIGN - Take advantage of the slim design by positioning the freestanding heater on the floor, or mount it on the wall with the included kit. The light weight and carry handle make it easy to move to another room as needed.
- BETTER EVERY DAY - A De’Longhi product always turns everyday activities & moments into something special. Born in 1974 as a brand of electric radiators, we now offer innovative appliances for every area of the home.
3. Decide whether the heater should move or stay put
A portable unit can be repositioned, but it still needs to be placed and operated as its manual directs. A wall-mounted unit gives a fixed heating location and may require installation work. Do not assume that a product described as mountable includes the hardware or is suitable for every wall or room.
4. Match the controls to occupancy
A thermostat helps regulate temperature; a timer or schedule can limit operation to chosen periods. Wi-Fi, app control, geofencing, or voice-assistant support may be useful if you will actually use those features to heat occupied rooms and times. They do not establish a universal energy-saving percentage.

- SAFE AND EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGY: This convector space heater’s exterior casing will feel warm and is safe for adults only. - UPDATED CRACK RESISTANT VERSION: This upgraded durable model is TRIPLE REINFORCED and made with a superior calcium silicate material. TRIPLE INSULATED for electrical safety. EASY TO MOUNT on any wall (Installation hardware Included). Enjoy the beautiful sleek PAINTABLE DESIGN which blends in with any décor.
- NO FAN and QUIET: Asthma and dust allergy sufferers can enjoy warmth without irritation since the air will not dry out, nor will dust circulate around the room. Perfect for all indoor rooms, including bathroom, bedrooms, office, garage, and RV.
5. Verify safety and placement for the exact model
Safety features differ by model. De’Longhi’s listing for the HMP1500 describes thermal shutoff and a tip-over switch, but confirm these for the exact SKU and market. Herschel warns that its infrared panels can have hot surfaces and that prolonged contact can cause injury. Follow the manual’s clearances and mounting instructions, particularly where children or older adults may be present. Check any relevant bathroom or IP rating rather than assuming a panel is suitable for a bathroom, and do not assume wall-mounted means cool-touch or safe to leave unattended.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What “efficient” means for an electric panel heater
Electric resistance heaters convert electricity into heat at the point of use, but that fact does not make one resistance heater inherently cheaper to run than another for the same delivered heat. A heater’s running cost depends on its wattage, how long it operates, local electricity rates, thermostat cycling, and the heating system it displaces. A thermostat or schedule can help avoid heating an unoccupied room, but savings depend on your previous heating use and behavior.

eheat advertises that Envi can reduce heating bills by 50% or more. That is a manufacturer marketing claim; the material available does not provide a comparison method that would support treating it as a typical or independently verified result. Do not use that figure as a prediction for your household.
