For shredded carrots, choose a food processor that includes a dedicated shredding disc or a reversible slicing/shredding disc. The chopping blade is a different attachment and is not the disc described for shredding. KitchenAid and Hamilton Beach both document models with carrot-suitable shredding attachments, but the available information does not establish a tested winner or show which model makes a finer or coarser shred.
What to check before buying
- Shredding attachment: Confirm the exact bundle includes a shredding surface or reversible shredding/slicing disc. Do not assume a processor includes one just because it has a chopping blade.
- Bowl capacity: Match the stated capacity to the batches you expect to prepare; capacity alone does not establish shredding performance.
- Feed tube: Check that carrots can be cut to fit the tube. The manufacturer’s instructions for the specific model should guide loading and operation.
- Exact model and bundle: Confirm the model number and included accessories on the listing for your region. Bundles, availability, prices, and warranty terms are not established here.
- Shred texture: The examples below are not documented as offering a coarse-shred setting. If texture matters, check the manual or confirm the disc’s result with the seller or manufacturer.

These examples have manufacturer-documented carrot shredding suitability. They are not a head-to-head test, so the information does not support claims about which is faster, quieter, easier to clean, or more consistent.

KitchenAid’s blade guide explains that its reversible slicing/shredding disc has separate orientations for the two functions; for shredding, follow the model’s instructions for orienting the raised shredding blades upward. See KitchenAid’s blade-use guidance.
How to shred carrots safely
- Check the model instructions. Use the directions and safety guidance supplied for your specific processor and disc.
- Fit the carrots to the feed tube. KitchenAid advises cutting long, narrow foods such as carrots to fit vertically or horizontally in the tube.
- Load for support and movement. KitchenAid’s guidance says to pack pieces so they are supported but can still move freely.
- Use the pusher with even pressure. Keep hands away from the disc; use the pusher and follow the appliance’s safety instructions. See KitchenAid’s reversible-disc instructions.
- Check for pieces left above the disc. KitchenAid notes that a few larger pieces may remain atop the disc. When processing a single carrot, trimming a flat surface can help it feed more evenly. See KitchenAid’s food processor tips.
Choosing between them
Start with the exact disc included in the bundle you can buy, then consider whether the listed capacity suits your batch size and whether the feed tube can accommodate your usual carrot preparation. The documented capacities differ—2.1 L for the KitchenAid 5KFP0919 and 8 cups for the Hamilton Beach 70743G—but the available evidence does not compare usable batch size or shred quality. Check the current regional listing and manual before purchase.
