There is no independently tested winner among the examples available, so compare the listed features rather than treating “heat-resistant” as a universal guarantee.
What to look for in an Irish coffee glass
Capacity and room for the cream
Irish coffee glasses are sold in several sizes, not to one universal standard. Examples range from a 6 oz footed glass to handled models listed at 22.5 cl, 23 cl, 24 cl and 25 cl. Choose a capacity that fits your recipe and leaves space for the cream layer; the figures are product examples, not a recommendation that one size is best.
Handle, stem and base
A handle gives you a place to grip a glass containing a hot drink. Sellers describe handles as helping with grip or safe handling, but those descriptions are product claims, not independent safety tests. Other formats are footed or stemmed, which change the way the glass is held and presented.
Construction and temperature instructions
Glass construction and heat guidance vary by product. For example, Avanti describes its 250 ml glasses as toughened and thermal-shock resistant, while Bormioli Luigi lists its 25 cl Thermic Glass as thermal borosilicate glass. These are manufacturer descriptions, not guarantees that every glass can withstand boiling water or abrupt temperature changes.

That guidance should not be applied automatically to every GenWare glass: the CG-08 listing does not state an item-specific temperature limit. Check the instructions for the exact item before preheating or pouring.
Set size and care
Listings include a single glass, sets of two and commercial packs of six. Care directions matter as much as the set size: Avanti lists its glasses as dishwasher and microwave safe but recommends hand washing. Follow the current maker’s instructions for the glass you buy.

Examples to compare
These product listings illustrate different sizes, formats and constructions. Availability varies by seller and location; the table reports listed specifications, not comparative test results.

How to choose for your recipe and serving style
- Start with your serving size. Compare the glass capacity with the coffee, whiskey and cream you plan to serve, leaving room for the topping.
- Choose how you want to hold it. A handled glass offers a grip away from the bowl; a footed or stemmed design gives a different presentation and hold.
- Read the exact temperature guidance. Do not assume that a glass sold for Irish coffee is suitable for boiling water or sudden temperature changes.
- Check the care instructions and quantity. Confirm whether the listing is for one glass, a pair or a commercial case, and whether hand washing is recommended.
Serving Irish coffee in the glass
The Belleek Group’s 2026 US catalog presents an “Authentic old Irish recipe” for Galway Crystal Irish Coffee glasses: preheat the glass with hot water, placing a spoon in the glass to avoid shattering; add 2 oz Irish whiskey, 5 oz strong hot coffee and 1–2 teaspoons brown sugar, then stir until dissolved. Top with whipped cream without stirring it in. This is the catalog’s recipe and handling advice, not universal guidance for every glass; follow the glass maker’s temperature instructions first.
The same catalog’s serving text says, “The true flavour of Irish Coffee is obtained by drinking the mixture through the cream.”
