Best Heat Diffusers for Glass Cooktops? What to Use Instead for More Even Cooking

A heat diffuser is not a safe default for a glass cooktop. Check your appliance manual and use compatible, flat-bottom cookware sized to the cooking zone.

There is no heat diffuser that can be recommended for every glass cooktop. GE Appliances specifically warns against using diffusers on electric cooktops, including radiant and halogen surfaces. For a radiant glass-ceramic cooktop, the safer starting point is cookware approved by your appliance manual, with a smooth, flat base sized to the active cooking zone.

Why a diffuser is not a safe default

A heat diffuser is a solid or perforated metal plate placed between a burner and a pan to reduce or spread heat. GE Appliances says, “Do not use any kind of diffuser or similar product on any cooktop burner, including an electric coil, induction or radiant/halogen surface.” See GE’s cookware and accessories guidance.

That is manufacturer guidance, not a comparative test of diffuser products. It does not establish that every brand has the same policy, so check the owner’s manual for your exact model. Do not treat a wire trivet, silicone mat, or grill mat as a workaround; GE also advises against those accessories on its electric ranges and cooktops.

First identify your cooktop type

“Glass cooktop” describes the surface, not necessarily the heating technology beneath it. A radiant electric cooktop heats elements under the glass and transfers heat through the surface to the cookware. Induction also commonly has a smooth glass surface, but it heats compatible cookware differently and has distinct cookware requirements. Samsung notes that electric glass and induction cooktops do not have interchangeable cookware rules; induction cookware must be magnetic. Consult the Samsung cookware guide and, above all, your appliance manual before choosing cookware or accessories.

Stove Ring (5''x5'') Heat Diffuser,Glass Cooktop Heat Diffuser
  • 【Compatibility】This stove ring heat dissipation plate is compatible with standard burners. It can securely hold various small and medium-sized cookware as well as cast iron pots, and is less likely to slide during cooking, providing a more secure cooking experience. It is not recommended for use with gas stoves.
  • 【 Uniform Heat Dissipation 】 This stove ring is designed as a heat sink for glass stoves. It can evenly distribute heat, prevent local high temperatures, and effectively prevent the bottom of the pot from burning or the stove surface from overheating and getting damaged.
  • 【 Isolation Cookware 】 This stove changer can also serve as a protector for electric stoves, reducing direct contact between cookware and the stove surface, preventing scratches and bumps, and extending the service life of the cookware.
  • 【 Easy to Store and Clean 】 This radiator measures 5*5 inches, making it convenient to take out and store. Its surface is smooth and not prone to oil stains, and it is simple and quick to clean.
  • 【Durable Material】This stove ring is made of high-strength metal, which is resistant to high temperatures and does not deform. It can withstand daily cooking use for a long time and has excellent durability.

What to use on a radiant glass cooktop instead

Choose a smooth, flat-bottom pan

A flat base makes close, stable contact with the cooking zone. SCHOTT CERAN advises using cookware with a smooth base and matching its diameter as closely as possible to the cooking zone. Its explanation of how radiant cooktops work describes heat passing from the radiator beneath the glass to the cookware. These are fit and performance recommendations, not a promise that food will heat uniformly in every pan.

Check material and construction

GE recommends stainless steel and aluminum for radiant surface burners, along with flat-bottom cookware; see its radiant burner performance guidance. Other manufacturers describe material behavior differently. Electrolux identifies aluminum and copper as excellent heat conductors and says stainless steel conducts heat more slowly, with results that can vary by construction. Samsung also lists aluminum and stainless steel among its electric-glass options, while cautioning against glass and cast iron. Review the Electrolux cookware guidance and your cooktop manual rather than assuming one material is best for every appliance or pan.

Match the pan to the active burner size

GE says a pan should not extend more than 1 inch beyond the burner ring. On a dual or expandable radiant burner, set the control to the size that matches the pan. The one-inch figure is GE’s compatibility guideline, not a universal rule for all cooktops; follow your model’s manual if it gives different instructions.

Keep the pan base clean and dry

Before cooking, check that the base and glass are clean and dry. Debris or moisture can interfere with contact, and rough or unsuitable cookware can scratch the surface. Follow the appliance maker’s cleaning and cookware-care instructions.

If the pan still heats unevenly

  • Confirm the pan is flat rather than warped, and that its base size suits the active cooking zone.
  • Check that you selected the correct size on a dual or expandable burner.
  • Verify that the cookware material and any restrictions are allowed by the exact cooktop manual.
  • For induction, confirm that the pan is induction-compatible; glass appearance alone does not identify the heating technology.
  • If performance remains abnormal with compatible cookware and correct settings, use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting guidance or contact its service support rather than adding a plate or mat between the pan and cooktop.

Condition before use Keep the cookware base clean and dry, and follow the appliance maker’s care instructions.

No specific diffuser model is supported here as a safe recommendation for glass cooktops, and the manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal ranking of cookware materials or guarantee perfectly even cooking.
