A food processor can slice potatoes when it has a compatible slicing disc. For easier meal prep, compare whether that disc is included, whether its thickness adjusts, how potatoes fit through the feed tube, and whether the bowl suits your batch. No single model is established as the universal best choice here; the KitchenAid 13-cup processor is one feature-rich example, not a blanket recommendation.

Which food processor blade slices potatoes?

Use a slicing disc—not the multipurpose blade or dicing kit—for potato slices. KitchenAid’s guidance puts the distinction plainly: “Use a slicing disc to slice potatoes, a dicing kit for dicing and a multipurpose s-blade to chop.” KitchenAid’s potato-preparation guidance also notes that not every processor includes every attachment.

Check the exact model and package contents before buying. KitchenAid’s accessory chart identifies an externally adjustable slicing disc for potatoes. A replacement disc may be an option for an existing processor, but confirm compatibility with the manufacturer for your precise model.

What to compare when choosing a processor

Slicing disc and thickness control

An adjustable disc lets you choose a cut closer to the recipe’s needs. KitchenAid gives 1/8-inch slices for gratin dauphinois and 1/4-inch slices or thicker for French fries as examples; they are recipe examples, not universal settings. Check how adjustment works and whether the disc is included in the specific bundle.

Feed tube and potato preparation

The opening determines how much trimming is needed before slicing. KitchenAid says many potatoes must be cut lengthwise into pieces that fit the feed tube, while a processor designed to process whole potatoes may avoid that step. Follow the manual for your model and use its pusher rather than fingers to guide food. GE’s general loading guidance also addresses feeding round produce, but your processor’s manual takes precedence.

Bowl capacity and accessories

Match the bowl to the amount you usually prepare; the available guidance does not establish a validated capacity threshold for potato batches. A French-fry disc or dicing kit can be useful for those specific cuts, but neither replaces a standard slicing disc. Confirm the precise model number, regional version, included parts, and manual because bundles can differ.

Cleaning and storage

Discs are sharp accessories, so consult the appliance’s current manual for cleaning and safe storage. Comparative evidence does not establish which processor is easiest to clean or store, so avoid choosing on that basis without checking the model’s instructions and arrangement.

How to slice potatoes in a food processor

  1. Check the manual. Confirm the slicing disc is compatible and identify the recommended speed, assembly, and safe operating procedure.
  2. Assemble the processor. On the models covered by KitchenAid’s instructions, the sequence is bowl and drive adapter, slicing disc, then secured lid. Other designs may differ.
  3. Prepare the potatoes. Wash them and peel if your recipe calls for it. Cut them to fit the feed tube when necessary.
  4. Feed carefully. Process pieces one at a time with the pusher. KitchenAid recommends high speed for slicing on its described models; follow your own model’s controls and manual.
  5. Set the cut for the recipe. Adjust thickness if your disc allows it. KitchenAid’s gratin and French-fry examples are starting points, not requirements for every recipe.

Which processor is a reasonable example?

The KitchenAid 13-cup food processor is a useful example to investigate because KitchenAid describes a version with a French-fry disc and dicing kit, and says that model can process whole potatoes. Its accessory guide also identifies an externally adjustable slicing disc for potatoes. Verify that the exact model and bundle currently offered in your region include the accessories you need before purchasing.

Tom’s Guide reports hands-on potato-slicing tests in its 2026 food-processor roundup and names the KitchenAid 13 Cup its best-for-slicing pick, citing the externally adjustable system. That is Tom’s Guide’s reported result and judgment, not an independent test of every available processor or a universal ranking.

The category includes other task-oriented designs. For example, the Sage/Breville BFP820 guide lists a slicing disc alongside a dicing kit, peeler, shredding disc, and French-fry cutter. This illustrates why attachment lists matter; it does not establish current availability in every market.

Can you use another tool?

Yes. A mandoline slicer, a specialized potato slicer, or a knife are alternatives to a food processor, according to KitchenAid. Choose based on the tool you already own and the cut you need; the cited guidance does not establish a comparative performance or safety advantage for one option.

Can sliced potatoes be stored before cooking?

KitchenAid says raw sliced potatoes may be held in cold water in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours. Follow that guidance for the storage situation it describes and your recipe’s directions.
