If you need a replacement futon mattress, verify that the listing is for a standalone mattress—not a convertible sofa bed—and confirm its current dimensions, availability, and return terms before ordering. The Serta Willow is a named standalone model, but the retailer page reviewed lists it as unavailable and gives conflicting thickness figures, so it cannot be treated as a verified current “best” pick.
Standalone mattress or complete sofa bed?
A futon mattress is the replacement sleeping surface for a compatible frame. A convertible futon sofa bed is an entire furniture unit, with its own frame and cushions. They are not interchangeable when you are shopping for a replacement mattress.
Walmart’s Serta Willow listing describes a standalone futon mattress. By contrast, Target’s Serta Colette listing is for a convertible sofa bed, not a separate mattress model. The Colette is an adjacent option if you need a complete furniture unit for a small room; its listed high-density foam cushions and 66.1-inch width describe that sofa bed, not a replacement mattress.
What the Serta Willow listing says—and what it does not establish
The Walmart page describes the Willow as firm, with Cottonique upholstery, memory foam, gel foam, and a nominal one-inch foam core. It characterizes Cottonique as a blend of selected grades of cotton and polyester fibers, with visco foam and finger foam layers. Those are listing descriptions, not independent comfort or durability test results.

- ONLY A MATTRESS(FRAME NOT INCLUDED): Full-size futon mattress measures 71 inches long, 52 inches wide, and 6 inches thick. It is compatible with most full-sized futon frames. We recommend that you measure the dimensions of your frame first. Please note that this item is only a mattress, and the futon frame is not included.
- TWO TYPES FIRMNESS: This futon mattress replacement core offers two levels of firmness, the softer side is ideal for the backrest, while the firmer side is better suited for the seat cushion. This design enhances seating comfort, and you can adjust it according to your preferred firmness level.
- REMOVABLE COVER: This cover is topped with 1200GSM plush fiber filling, and the bottom is equipped with anti-slip granules to prevent the mattress from sliding. By unzipping the bottom cover, you can easily remove it and place it in the washing machine for cleaning.
- PREMIUM MATERIALS: Constructed with high-quality gel memory foam and high-density support foam layers for optimal comfort.
- TIPS: This futon mattress replacement is compressed and vacuum-sealed for reducing the space occupation and carbon dioxide emission during transportation. Once the futon is unpacked and allowed to breathe for 48 hours, it quickly regains its original shape and size, ready for use.
The listing is internally inconsistent about thickness: its title and specification table say 8 inches, while its product details call it nominally 9 inches. Do not choose a frame or bedding setup based on a guess about which number is correct. Check the current manufacturer tag or the seller’s current listing for the exact product being offered.
Walmart also states that the Willow has a five-year warranty against defects in construction and workmanship, excluding normal wear and tear and stains or soiling. The page marks the item unavailable and cautions that product information is supplied by manufacturers, suppliers, and others and is not independently verified. Confirm that the item is currently for sale and read the warranty terms that apply to the specific listing before purchase.

How to decide whether a futon mattress fits your room and use
Measure the frame and the space it needs
Measure the futon frame and compare it with the seller’s current mattress length, width, and thickness. Also check how much clearance the frame needs when folded and unfolded. The Willow page does not establish reliable unfolded dimensions, so it cannot by itself confirm fit.
Match the construction and feel to your preference
Look beyond a product title that mentions memory foam. Check the full construction description and firmness label, then consider whether that combination suits your seating and sleeping preferences. The Willow listing calls its feel firm and describes multiple foam layers, but it does not provide comparative testing that would establish how comfortable it is for you.

Choose for how often you will sleep on it
Decide whether the futon is mainly for occasional guests or will be used frequently for both seating and sleeping. The available product pages do not provide controlled comfort or durability tests, so they do not support a universal ranking of Serta futon mattresses.
Check seller terms before committing
Confirm stock, exact specifications, return policy, and warranty coverage on the seller’s current page. This matters especially when a listing is unavailable or its measurements conflict; do not assume an old product page proves present availability.

Care for the specific product you buy
Follow the care instructions on the mattress label. Target’s general futon category guide recommends regular rotation or flipping, prompt spot-cleaning of spills, and considering a mattress protector, but those general suggestions do not override a product’s own care directions. Target’s Colette listing, for example, specifies spot or wipe cleaning with water and mild detergent for that sofa bed; do not assume those directions apply to the Willow or another mattress.
