How to choose an inflatable bed for adults
Start with the place you’ll sleep, then compare the practical details that affect setup and comfort. A raised bed with an integrated electric pump may be convenient in a powered guest room; at a campsite, the pump must suit the available power, and the inflated bed must fit inside the tent.
- Use and power: Check whether the pump is built in, external, manual or battery-operated, and whether you can use it where the bed will be set up.
- Fit and access: Compare the bed’s inflated length and width with the available floor or tent footprint. A raised mattress can be easier to get onto and off, but consumes more space.
- Sleep surface: A flocked top may help sheets grip. Look for credible test findings on comfort and support rather than relying on a product label alone.
- Air retention and noise: Distinguish overnight test results from guarantees; also consider pump noise and noise from movement if reported.
- Durability and care: Check puncture-resistance or durability findings, how the bed packs away, and whether any repair patch is compatible with its material.
- Current model details: Confirm the exact size, weight, warranty, price, availability and pump inclusion for the model sold in your market. These can vary or change.
Guest beds: Good Housekeeping’s tested picks
Good Housekeeping published its guide on August 19, 2026, naming category winners after testing 15 air mattresses with its Textiles Lab and consumer testers. The publication reports measuring inflation and deflation, overnight leakage under a 170-pound sand load over 24 hours, sagging and indentation, bursting strength and puncture resistance, comfort, and at-home consumer feedback. Those results describe its tests and products; they do not guarantee the performance of every unit.

Camping: fit the bed to the tent and pump setup
Good Housekeeping names the Coleman Double-High SupportRest Air Bed its camping pick. In that publication’s tests, it inflated in under two minutes and did not lose air overnight. Its pump is separate and can be loud; the test result is not a guarantee for every unit.
Before choosing a camping bed, compare its inflated dimensions with your tent’s usable floor area—not just the tent’s advertised capacity. Which? notes that some campers choose airbeds for a more comfortable surface than typical camping mats. Also decide how the separate pump will be powered: a bed or pump that needs electricity may not suit a site without mains power.

EZ Inflate markets its Twin and Full double-high beds for guests, camping and travel, describing a built-in pump, flocked top and coil-beam support; its Twin is supplied with repair patches. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent test results. An integrated electric pump may be impractical where there is no power, and you should check that any patch is suitable for the specific mattress material.
What air-retention tests can—and cannot—tell you
“Won’t deflate overnight” is not a dependable promise to infer from a product name or one test. Good Housekeeping reports testing leakage over 24 hours with a 170-pound sand load. Which? describes an 18-hour weighted deflation test, along with comfort assessments by testers, durability checks, setup and packing measures, and smell and noise assessments. Its page lists test dates of March 2024, January 2023 and April 2022 and was last checked in June 2026.

The different test durations and methods mean their findings are best read within each publication’s own testing context, not as a direct head-to-head score. A mattress that loses air can also be affected by its condition, setup and use; check the model’s instructions and inspect it for damage rather than treating another product’s test result as a guarantee.
Safety: keep ordinary air mattresses away from infant sleep
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that ordinary air mattresses can be too soft for infants, creating a risk of suffocation or entrapment in nearby gaps. Its Publication 5222 (April 2012) says: “Never place infants to sleep on air mattresses or other soft surfaces (such as water beds and adult beds), which are not specifically designed or safe for infant use.” Follow the product’s warnings and instructions.

Check the exact product before buying
Names and specifications can differ among sizes and model variants, while price, inventory and product details change. Confirm the inflated dimensions, pump type and inclusion, current weight limit, warranty and care instructions for the exact model and market. Treat a performance statement from a manufacturer as a manufacturer claim unless an independent test source supports it.
