For a small woodworking shop that runs one machine at a time, the Grizzly G8027 is a concrete budget candidate: Grizzly lists a 1 HP motor, 500 CFM rated airflow, 2.5-micron filtration and a displayed price of $245. That makes it a starting point—not a universal winner. Match any collector to your tool, duct or hose layout, filter needs, electrical supply and total setup cost.
Which affordable dust collector is worth considering?
Grizzly G8027: a budget candidate for one machine at a time
Grizzly’s G8027 product listing specifies a 1 HP motor, 500 CFM rated airflow and 2.5-micron filtration. Its filter bag measures 14.5 by 24 inches. The listing names sanders, router tables, jobsite table saws, benchtop jointers and planers among suitable applications. It displayed a $245 price and in-stock status when checked; price and stock can change, so confirm both on the manufacturer’s listing.
Before buying, check the exact electrical requirements and what accessories are included. The available listing details do not establish that the G8027 outperforms every competing budget collector. Treat its headline CFM as a manufacturer rating, not a promise of airflow at your machine.
Wall-mounted and canister-filter alternatives
The Grizzly G0785 is a wall-mount format with a canister filter that may be worth investigating when floor space is scarce. Its full specifications and current price are not established here. Verify performance, replacement-filter availability, mounting requirements and tool compatibility directly with the manufacturer before comparing it with the G8027.

How to compare collectors without being misled by CFM
CFM figures are meaningful only when you know what is being measured. A manufacturer’s rating is not necessarily the airflow delivered through a particular hose and duct layout. In Anatole Burkin’s Woodcraft-hosted shop guide, a collector rated at 650 CFM by its manufacturer moved about 420 CFM through six feet of flexible hose. That result applies to the reported setup; it is not a general conversion factor for other collectors or shops.
Compare models under equivalent conditions where possible, and keep rated and measured airflow separate. Note the hose length and diameter, duct material, fittings, and which blast gates are open. Every added restriction or longer run can affect the air that reaches a tool.

- HEPA Certified: HEPA filtration, adjustable high performance turbine. Capture dust without interruptions due to generous capacity of the 3.96 gallon (15L) container.
- Cleaning Tools Included: For the CT 15, the crevice and upholstery nozzle cleaning accessories are included and stored within the mobile dust extractor. The flat top of the storage means that work materials and other tools are always within reach.
- High quality: Robust design for a long service life, compact and stable footprint and a chassis with steel axles. Supported by the Festool 3 year comprehensive warranty including wear and tear.
- Ideal for use on the go thanks to compact dimensions, low weight, and robust chassis.
- Touch operation for intuitive control of the mobile dust extractor.
- Start with the tool: Identify the largest dust-producing machine and its airflow needs, then consider whether you will run one machine or several at once.
- Check the connection: Confirm the inlet size and account for reducers, flexible hose, duct fittings, blast gates and run length.
- Evaluate filtration: Compare the stated filter rating and the price and availability of compatible replacement bags or canisters. A micron rating alone does not establish room-air quality.
- Account for collection and fit: Compare bag or drum capacity, emptying method, footprint, mobility and mounting needs.
- Confirm utilities and operating conditions: Check the exact model’s voltage, amperage and circuit requirements, as well as noise. These details were not all verified for the G8027 here.
- Calculate the whole setup: Add compatible filtration, hose or duct, fittings and gates to the collector price; the lowest unit price may not mean the lowest installed cost.
When a small collector is enough—and when it is not
A one-machine-at-a-time plan is a sensible boundary for a budget collector. Burkin’s guide describes satisfactory single-tool use in several tested setups, but opening multiple machine connections divides the available airflow. If you regularly operate more than one machine at once, compare larger systems rather than assuming a small collector can serve them all.
The guide compares 1 HP single-stage units with 1.5 HP and 2 HP collectors, including two-stage and cyclone designs. Its results are practical observations from one shop, not guarantees for other tools or layouts. A long or restrictive run can leave even a nominally capable collector below a tool’s needs.

How duct layout and collector design affect the setup
Keep the run suited to the machine
Burkin reports that excess flexible hose reduced airflow in his setup, while short runs of PVC and metal duct performed differently. In one 25-foot PVC arrangement, a 1 HP collector fell below recommended airflow for some tools; a metal-duct arrangement performed better. These are dated shop observations rather than controlled, universal product tests. Use them as a reason to examine your own route and resistance, not as a promise that a particular duct material will always perform better.
Understand the collection stages
A single-stage collector sends dust through the impeller before material is collected in bags. A two-stage design separates some larger chips before final filtration. A cyclone uses a swirling chamber to separate larger debris before air reaches a filter. These formats differ in footprint, how debris is emptied and how filtration is arranged; choose according to the shop’s space, use and maintenance needs.

Use a dust collector safely and realistically
Do not use a single-stage collector to sweep miscellaneous floor or bench debris. Screws and other hard objects can strike the impeller. Follow the collector’s instructions and use suitable shop-cleanup practices.
A collector is one part of managing wood dust, not proof that all airborne exposure is controlled. OSHA’s Wood Dust overview is an official starting point for workplace context. No quantitative exposure limit is established here, and an inexpensive collector alone should not be treated as a complete exposure-control plan.
