What to compare for stairs
- Hose and cord reach: A longer hose can let you position the unit on a landing while reaching the steps; cord length determines how often you may need to change outlets. - Tank capacity: Smaller tanks may require more frequent refills and emptying during a stair-cleaning session. Capacity figures are model-specific.

Rug Doctor’s support instructions say to check upholstery labels for its spot cleaner: W or W/S indicates water cleaning is allowed, while S, X, or “Dry Clean Only” means not to use that machine and to contact the manufacturer for instructions. A full-size carpet washer, equipment rental, or professional cleaning may fit a broad or heavily soiled job better. For a localized stain or routine stair care, compare portable models by reach, tools, handling, capacity, and cleanup.
