No cited evidence establishes one dishwasher detergent as best for silicone kitchenware. If you prefer a fragrance-free option, Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Gel Free & Clear is an automatic-dishwasher product to consider—but its manufacturer does not claim it cleans silicone better or prevents silicone odors or residue. Check the care label on each item and your dishwasher manual before choosing a detergent or loading a utensil.
Is there a best dishwasher detergent for silicone?
There is no supported head-to-head winner for cleaning silicone. The available product information identifies detergents and their intended use, but does not show which one performs best on silicone or eliminates smells or tastes. Treat a fragrance-free label as a preference, not proof of silicone-specific results.
Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Gel Free & Clear is one option for shoppers seeking a fragrance-free automatic-dishwasher detergent. Its manufacturer lists water, sodium citrate, cleaning agents, sodium silicate, citric acid, and protease and amylase enzymes among the ingredients, and describes the product as phosphate-free and chlorine-bleach-free. Those details identify the formula; they are not evidence of superior silicone cleaning. See Seventh Generation’s product information.
Check whether the silicone item is dishwasher-safe
Follow the care instructions for the exact item, including any handles or attached materials. Brand guidance varies: KitchenAid says its silicone utensils are dishwasher-safe but excludes tools with wood handles, while Starpack says its own silicone products are dishwasher-safe and recommends the top rack. Neither instruction establishes a universal rule for all silicone kitchenware.

- If the manufacturer specifies a rack position, follow that direction.
KitchenAid’s silicone utensil care guidance and Starpack’s instructions for its products illustrate why the item maker’s directions matter.
Use automatic dishwasher detergent as directed
Dishwasher detergent is not the same as hand-dishwashing liquid. Seventh Generation’s gel is intended for an automatic dishwasher: its directions say to fill the main dispenser according to the machine’s instructions and to load only items marked dishwasher-safe. Use the dose and cycle specified by your dishwasher manual rather than assuming one amount fits every machine.

The manufacturer recommends its rinse aid in very hard water. That is product guidance, not a universal requirement. Bosch says whether dishwasher salt is needed depends on local water hardness; consult your appliance manual for salt settings and water-hardness instructions. Seventh Generation’s use directions and Bosch’s detergent and salt guidance provide the relevant details for those products and appliances.
Choose a detergent format that fits your dishwasher
Gel, tablets, and packs are not interchangeable in every respect: follow the product label and your dishwasher’s dispenser and cycle instructions. Bosch describes its own Finish lineup as follows; these are product descriptions, not comparative test results or silicone recommendations.

Troubleshoot odor or film separately
If a silicone utensil smells after washing
A fragrance-free detergent is a reasonable choice if you want to avoid added fragrance, but the cited product information does not establish that it will remove a silicone item’s smell or taste. Starpack suggests soaking its own utensils for one hour in a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and warm water after strongly smelling or coloring foods, then scrubbing with dish soap. Treat that as Starpack’s product-care suggestion, not a universal or independently tested remedy; check the item’s own instructions first. Starpack’s cleaning guidance.
If dishes have a white film or cloudy residue
Do not assume the film is caused by silicone or detergent residue. Whirlpool distinguishes silica film from other cloudy residue, says fresh automatic dishwasher detergent can improve cleaning, and notes that rinse aid may help minimize repeat white-film buildup. Not all packs or tablets include rinse aid. Whirlpool’s white-film troubleshooting advice addresses general dishwasher results, not a silicone-specific cause.
