A double oven electric range is a good fit if you often cook dishes that need different temperatures, or want a smaller cavity for everyday meals while keeping a larger one available for bigger dishes. Before choosing a model, check that it fits your kitchen opening and electrical supply, then compare oven capacity, cooktop elements, convection, cleaning options and controls. The specifications below are a comparison, not a tested ranking; no independent winner is established here.

What a double oven range does—and who benefits

A double oven range puts two separate oven cavities in one range. That lets you prepare dishes at different temperatures at the same time, a useful arrangement for meals with mismatched baking or roasting requirements. GE Appliances describes its double oven ranges as allowing two dishes to cook at different temperatures simultaneously: GE’s double oven buying guide.

The layout can also help when a smaller oven is enough for a routine meal, while a larger cavity is useful for a bigger dish. It is less compelling if you rarely need two temperatures at once or regularly need one large oven cavity for oversized cookware. Check the dimensions and usable rack space of each cavity rather than relying only on a combined capacity figure.

Compare the features that affect everyday use

Oven capacity and rack usability

Capacity varies by model. GE states that its double oven ranges offer up to 6.8 cu. ft. of total capacity; that is GE’s maximum, not a capacity figure for every brand or model. Total capacity alone does not show whether a particular roasting pan, baking sheet or casserole will fit comfortably in either cavity. Review the manufacturer’s cavity dimensions, rack positions and included accessories for the exact model.

Range style, fit and controls

Freestanding and slide-in ranges differ in installation fit and appearance. Compare the manufacturer’s overall dimensions, required clearances and control placement with your existing opening and countertop layout. A style that looks integrated may still require different measurements or installation work than a replacement freestanding range.

Cooktop elements and cooking modes

For a radiant electric cooktop, compare the number, size and power of the elements with the pans you use. Also check whether the oven offers convection and which additional modes are included. Feature names are not a substitute for verifying the specific model’s functions and specifications.

Radiant electric and induction are not the same cooktop technology. Induction is electric but uses a different heating method and requires compatible magnetic cookware. If you want a conventional radiant smoothtop, confirm that the listed cooktop type is radiant rather than induction.

Cleaning and controls

Check the cleaning method for each oven cavity and consider how its controls and display will work in your kitchen. Some models provide steam-clean options or other modes; verify what is included on the exact model rather than assuming a feature applies across a product family.

A documented model example: Whirlpool WGE745C0FS

Whirlpool’s comparison chart lists the WGE745C0FS as a 30-inch freestanding electric double oven range. The chart specifies radiant elements, five total cooktop elements, true convection, steam clean, a no-preheat mode and a blue LED display. These are manufacturer-listed features, not evidence of an independently tested performance advantage. See Whirlpool’s electric range comparison chart for the model listing.

Use this example as a checklist for comparing specifications, not as a recommendation for every kitchen. Confirm current model details, finish options, availability and installation requirements with the manufacturer and retailer before purchase.

Check the opening and electrical supply before buying

Measure the existing range opening and compare it with the selected model’s installation instructions. Account for the required clearances and any differences in range depth, width or control layout. If the new range does not match the existing opening or connection, installation may require additional work.

Whirlpool’s 2026 range buying guide says: “Electric ranges typically require a 220 or 250-volt, 40-50 amp receptacle outlet and do not need a gas line.” This is general guidance, not a guarantee that your home has the right connection for a particular model. Check the model’s installation specifications and applicable local codes, and have a qualified installer verify the electrical supply.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  1. Confirm the cooking need. Choose a double oven if you will regularly use two temperatures at once or benefit from a smaller cavity for everyday cooking.
  2. Measure the space. Compare the opening, surrounding counters and required clearances with the exact model’s installation dimensions.
  3. Verify electrical compatibility. Match the model’s stated requirements to the home’s supply and local code; consult a qualified installer if anything is uncertain.
  4. Compare cavity details. Check total and per-cavity capacity, interior dimensions, rack positions and the cookware you need to fit.
  5. Match the cooktop and oven functions to your habits. Compare radiant element sizes and power, convection, other cooking modes, cleaning methods and controls.
  6. Confirm the current purchase details. Check the exact model and finish, current availability, delivery, installation and removal terms with the seller.

What specifications can—and cannot—tell you

Manufacturer pages can establish a model’s listed configuration and features, but they do not by themselves establish that it cooks better, lasts longer or costs less to repair than alternatives. No independent performance winner, reliability ranking, repair-cost comparison or verified retailer inventory is established here. Treat those as separate questions rather than inferring an answer from a feature list.
