The best cordless stapler depends on what you’re fastening: upholstery, narrow-crown woodworking, cable, and fencing each call for different tools and fasteners. Start with the material and the exact staple type and dimensions your project requires, then compare compatible models—not a single all-purpose ranking.
Which cordless stapler is right for your project?
“Cordless stapler” covers several distinct tool categories. A light craft or upholstery stapler is not a substitute for a narrow-crown woodworking tool, and neither is designed to replace a cable or fencing stapler. Match the tool to the task before comparing battery platforms or features.
| Work type | Example model | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Craft and upholstery | BLACK+DECKER BCN115 | Staple crown and leg length, compatible pin nails, and the exact package contents. BLACK+DECKER specifications |
| Narrow-crown woodworking | Bosch Professional GTH18V-38-2M; Makita LXT XTS02; DEWALT DCN681B | Staple gauge, crown, leg-length range, actuation controls, and regional availability. Bosch specifications; Makita announcement; DEWALT stapler catalog |
| Cable installation | DEWALT DCN701B | Confirm the exact staple type and cable-specific fit in the model manual. DEWALT stapler catalog |
| Fencing | DEWALT DCFS950B; Milwaukee M18 FUEL Utility Fencing Stapler | Use the specified fencing staple type and lengths; these are specialist tools, not household upholstery staplers. DEWALT DCFS950B; Milwaukee specifications |
Check fastener fit before buying
A tool’s name or broad category does not establish that it accepts the staple you already have. Check the model specification or manual for fastener type, crown or gauge, and leg length. Also confirm suitability for the material and application; a fastener that physically loads may still be wrong for the work.
- BLACK+DECKER BCN115: The product page lists heavy-duty staples with a 10.6 mm crown and 6–14 mm leg length, as well as compatible 18-gauge pin nails up to 15 mm. See BLACK+DECKER’s specifications.
- RYOBI R18ST50-0: RYOBI UK describes this 18V ONE+ model for upholstery, carpet tacking, and general DIY, with 10 mm crown staples from 6–14 mm. This is UK-market information; check the local model and package. RYOBI UK staplers
- Milwaukee fencing stapler: Milwaukee specifies its 9-gauge galvanized staples in 1 1/2-, 1 3/4-, and 2-inch lengths. Confirm compatibility with the exact fastener before use. Milwaukee specifications

Compare battery, controls, and working features
Once a model accepts the right fastener, compare features that affect how it will work on your job. Battery-platform compatibility can matter if you already own tools in that system, but package contents vary: verify whether the exact SKU includes a battery and charger. BLACK+DECKER describes the BCN115 as a built-in rechargeable cordless tool; Bosch identifies its stapler with the 18V system and AMPShare compatibility. BLACK+DECKER; Bosch Professional

How to choose without mistaking claims for test results
- Identify the job and material. Decide whether you need a craft/upholstery, woodworking, cable, or fencing stapler.
- Match the fastener precisely. Verify staple type, crown or gauge, and leg length against the manual or model specification.
- Check the regional SKU. Confirm current availability and whether the package includes a battery and charger; listings and product availability can change.
- Compare useful operating details. Look at magazine capacity, actuation, depth adjustment, jam clearing, weight, and battery platform where the manufacturer states them.
- Read output claims with their conditions. Runtime and speed figures are manufacturer claims, not equivalent independent tests unless the underlying conditions are comparable.
The available manufacturer listings establish product categories and selected specifications, but do not provide an independent cross-brand test of durability, comfort, or long-term reliability. Avoid treating a speed or productivity claim as proof that one category or model is best for every job.
