Check the exact model’s temperature range, airflow, electrical configuration, and compatible accessories before buying; there is no single best choice for every project.
How to choose a corded heat gun
Start with the work you expect to do, then compare how each tool controls heat and airflow. A maximum temperature alone does not tell you how precisely a gun can be set or how much air it moves. Fixed or staged settings may be adequate for simpler work; variable, stepless, or programmable controls offer more adjustment when the application calls for it.
- Temperature: Compare the stated range and whether adjustment is staged, variable, stepless, or programmable.
- Airflow: Treat airflow as a separate specification. Compare its range and settings where the manufacturer provides them.
- Electrical fit: Verify voltage, frequency, and plug for your location and the exact model variant.
- Handling and accessories: Check verified details such as weight, cooling or resting position, and attachments compatible with that model.
Manufacturer ratings and independent test readings are different kinds of figures. A product’s rated maximum is not necessarily the peak measured from a particular sample in a reviewer’s test.
Which corded heat gun fits your project?
General DIY with variable temperature
The Craftsman CMEE531 is a straightforward option to consider if you want a corded tool with a variable temperature dial. Craftsman lists an adjustment range of 120°F to 1200°F. That range describes the manufacturer’s specification; it does not establish that every setting is equally suitable for every material or task.

Paint stripping and shrinking tubing
DEWALT lists the corded D26950, D26960, and D26960K, and identifies applications that include paint stripping and shrinking tubing. These are distinct model and package designations, so check the exact product and included items rather than assuming their controls or contents are identical. The available product information here does not establish a comparable temperature or airflow range for these models.
Professional work with programmable settings
Omega’s HG series is a programmable line with six settings, adjustable temperature from 50°C to 540°C, and adjustable airflow. Omega lists presets for applications including shrinking tubing and plastics work, and specifies 120 V, 60 Hz, and 11 A power requirements, with UL/cUL approvals. Confirm the exact HG model and its controls before purchase; the cited series information does not establish that every feature applies identically to every variant.

Professional work needing staged temperature control
The Steinel HM 2600 E is listed with a 120 VAC supply, 1750 W power rating, nine temperature stages from 120°F to 1150°F, and airflow from 2 to 13 cfm. Steinel also lists a roofing kit option. Check current regional availability and confirm the kit’s fit and contents for the particular model.
Compact professional tool for tube shrinking
Bosch describes the GHG 16-50 as a compact corded professional heat gun with two operating modes, and gives tube shrinking as an example application. The cited listing is for the Oman market, so it should not be treated as confirmation of the electrical configuration or availability of a version sold elsewhere.

Fine adjustment with a documented US configuration
The Leister SOLANO AT page describes a US configuration with a 120 V supply, 1800 W rating, stepless temperature adjustment from 50°C to 650°C, airflow from 210 to 350 l/min, a display, a 3 m cable, and a US polarized plug. The page also lists UL approval. It is a candidate when independent adjustment and a specified US electrical configuration are priorities; confirm that the listing matches the exact unit you are considering.
Model specifications at a glance
The figures below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not results from a hands-on comparison by this publication. They describe different models and markets; ranges and units should not be treated as directly interchangeable without considering the control design and electrical configuration.

Check voltage, plug, and regional version
A tool name does not guarantee the same electrical setup in every market. The cited Leister SOLANO AT configuration is 120 V with a US polarized plug, while the Leister HOT JET 302 A listing is a 230 V, 600 W model with stepless settings and a Swiss plug. The latter is not a direct US plug-in choice. Before buying any corded heat gun, verify the voltage, frequency, and plug on the exact regional listing; do not infer compatibility from a similar model name.

Project Farm says it bought and tested 19 heat guns, including 13 corded models, in a comparison published March 17, 2024 and updated August 27, 2026. Its tests covered glue-stick melting, aluminum-block heating, maximum temperature, power draw, noise, and weight. Project Farm named the Craftsman its overall pick based on its own tests; that is one reviewer’s conclusion, not a universal fit for every project.

Best Value
- VARIBALE TEMPERATURE CONTROL: Variable temperature control dial of the heat gun allows for easy heat adjustment from 120-degree Fahrenheit to 1200-degree Fahrenheit
- OPTIMAL AIR FLOW: Two fan speeds for optimal air flow
- DELIVERING HIGH HEAT: Rated 1500 watts delivering high heat
- HANDS FREE USE: Integrated support stand allows heat gun to sit upright
- FLEXIBILITY DURING USE: 6 ft. cord provides flexibility during use
For its tested samples, Project Farm reported measured maximum temperatures of 1,279°F for Craftsman, 1,246°F for Hercules, and 1,176°F for the Makita corded model. Those are the reviewer’s measured sample results, not manufacturer-rated specifications or a guarantee for every unit. The difference between a product rating and a test reading is one reason to weigh the control design and intended task rather than choosing by a single peak-temperature figure.
Quick Recap
Before you buy
- Name the task. Decide whether you mainly need general DIY temperature adjustment, a tool for named applications such as paint stripping or tube shrinking, or finer programmable or stepless control.
- Compare controls and airflow. Check both temperature adjustment and airflow on the exact model. If a listing does not state a range, do not assume one from another model in the same brand’s line.
- Confirm regional electrical compatibility. Match voltage, frequency, and plug to your location and intended outlet.
- Verify the package and accessory fit. Check model suffixes, included kit contents, and compatibility of any nozzle or other attachment with the specific heat gun.
- Use the exact model’s manual. For operating and safety instructions, follow the manufacturer’s manual for the tool you own; requirements can differ by model and application.
