There is no manufacturer-supported “best overall” Bezzera machine: the right choice depends on whether you want a compact heat-exchanger machine, a lever workflow, or dual boilers with volumetric dosing. Bezzera’s official specifications identify the BZ10, Magica, Strega, Duo and Matrix as distinct fits, not a tested ranking. Compare their versions, water connections, footprint and electrical requirements before buying.
How to choose a Bezzera espresso machine
Start with the way you want to control a shot. Manual-lever models put delivery under your hand; volumetric versions dispense programmed doses. Then decide between a heat-exchanger boiler and a dual-boiler layout, and check whether the exact configuration supports a water tank, mains connection or both.
- Prefer a compact tank-fed heat exchanger: consider the BZ10.
- Want a manual lever with a heat exchanger: consider Magica MN.
- Want a spring-lever process: consider Strega, paying attention to its version suffix.
- Want dual boilers: compare Duo and Matrix, then choose manual MN or volumetric DE operation.
These are feature-based matches to Bezzera’s descriptions, not independent findings about espresso quality. The manufacturer says its published specifications are indicative and may change; verify the exact regional model and current technical sheet with the seller.

Which model fits your workflow?
BZ10: a compact tank-fed heat exchanger
The BZ10 is a one-group semi-professional machine with a 3 L tank and heat-exchanger boiler. Bezzera describes it as suitable where a water-network connection is unavailable. Its listed footprint is 250 × 425 × 375 mm and net weight is 19 kg. For the BZ10 PM, a vibration pump and solenoid-valve group are controlled by a push button. The manufacturer lists 1200 W at 110–120 V and 1100–1300 W at 220–240 V; confirm the voltage and power for the specific unit and your supply before purchase. Bezzera’s BZ10 specifications.
Magica: heat exchanger with a manual-lever option
Magica has a 2 L copper boiler with an internal heat exchanger, thermosiphonic group heating and a standard 4 L tank with vibration pump. In the MN version, lifting the lever starts delivery and lowering it stops. Bezzera also lists S and S PID variants, so do not assume every Magica has the same controls or weight: the listed net weights are 22.7 kg for S and 28.2 kg for S PID. The body is described as polished AISI 304 stainless steel; listed dimensions are 300 × 425 × 415 mm. Bezzera’s Magica specifications.

Strega: spring pressure after pump pre-infusion
Strega’s AL description lays out a particular sequence: a vibration pump first fills the lever group for pre-infusion, then stops while two springs develop pressure during delivery. This differs from simply raising and lowering a manual lever to start and stop delivery. The machine is listed with a 2 L boiler, 4 L tank and dimensions of 330 × 450 × 710 mm. Bezzera identifies S, R and TOP configurations; the R version has load and drain connections, so check installation requirements for the exact version. Bezzera’s Strega specifications.
Duo: dual boilers with a manual or volumetric version
Duo is a dual-boiler, one-group machine offered with a 4 L tank and a choice of tank or mains water. The MN version uses a manual lever and two PID thermostats. The DE version uses volumetric dosing, with four programmable doses and continuous dispensing, and has three PID thermostats. Bezzera lists dimensions of 326 × 470 × 425 mm. Its service-boiler capacity is rendered inconsistently across the English and Italian product-page tables, so that figure is not a reliable basis for comparing versions; check the current regional technical sheet if it matters to your decision. - Comes with detailed instructions and an instructional video
- Professional-style machine
- Attractive chrome base
- Great steaming mechanism for cappuccinos
Matrix: dual boilers with a display
Matrix is another dual-boiler, one-group machine with a 4 L tank and selectable tank or mains water. The MN configuration has a manual lever and two PID thermostats; DE has volumetric dosing and three thermostats. The DE version offers four programmable doses plus continuous delivery. Bezzera lists a 3.5-inch touch display, a 0.45 L coffee boiler and a 1 L service boiler. Verify the current specification for the selected version before buying. Bezzera’s Matrix specifications.
Duo or Matrix? Match the controls to your priorities
Both are dual-boiler families, both offer a manual MN and volumetric DE configuration, and both can use tank or mains water. The published details that distinguish them include Matrix’s 3.5-inch display and the stated programmable-dose controls on the DE versions. Duo’s DE version is listed with three PID thermostats, while its MN version has two; Matrix likewise lists three thermostats for DE and two for MN. Choose by the controls and installation arrangement in the exact model sheet, rather than assuming the family name alone defines the machine’s operation.

What to verify before ordering
- Suffix and dosing: confirm whether the listing is MN, DE, PM, S, S PID, AL, R or TOP, as applicable. Suffixes can change controls and plumbing.
- Water connection: determine whether the intended setup is tank-fed or requires mains-water and drain connections.
- Space and access: compare the listed width, depth and height with the counter and clearance available; the Strega listing includes a substantially taller height than the other listed footprints.
- Electrical supply: check voltage and power for your region and the exact unit, and make sure the circuit and plug are appropriate.
- Current specifications: ask the seller for the technical sheet matching the regional configuration. Bezzera’s official production page says product images and technical information are indicative and may change without notice: Bezzera production catalog.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Bezzera’s product pages document architecture, controls, capacities and listed dimensions. They do not establish that one of these machines produces better espresso than another in independent testing, nor do they provide a universal winner, current street prices or retail stock. Treat “best” as a fit question: choose the design and workflow that suit your installation and the amount of manual control you want, then verify the exact configuration with the seller.
