Yes. Clean the slide regularly with soap and water, as its manufacturer directs, and consider avoiding synthetic-fabric clothing. These are the household measures recommended in slide manuals; there is no evidence here that industrial antistatic sprays or coatings are suitable for an outdoor slide children use.
Why does a backyard slide build up static?
Sliding and clothing rubbing against the slide can create a small electrostatic charge. A PRAGMA/AXI slide manual specifically recommends avoiding synthetic fabrics as one way to reduce it. Dry air can make static charge harder to dissipate in general, but industrial guidance does not establish a humidity target for a backyard slide.
What can you do to reduce static?
Clean the slide with soap and water
Follow the care instructions for your particular model. A PRAGMA/AXI manual says sliding can create a small electrostatic charge and recommends regularly cleaning the surface with water and soap. A Grow’n Up manual likewise recommends regular cleaning with soapy water to help avoid static buildup. Repeat cleaning as needed if static returns.
Consider what children are wearing
The PRAGMA/AXI manual recommends not wearing synthetic-fabric clothing on the slide. This is a product-specific recommendation, not a guarantee that static will disappear; check the instructions for your own slide.

What should you avoid?
- Industrial antistatic sprays or coatings: The available product information concerns industrial or ESD-control applications, not outdoor child-contact use. ACL says its cited coating is intended for indoor use, and no cited source establishes that these products are suitable for a backyard slide.
- Adding a grounding wire: Industrial static-control guidance discusses grounding conductive materials, but the slide manuals cited here recommend cleaning and clothing changes—not adding a ground connection to a slide.
- Applying turf-care advice to a slide: A fabric-softener recommendation for synthetic playground turf does not establish that the same treatment is safe or effective on plastic slides.
Keep the slide safe to use
Soap and water can leave a slide wet. A Grow’n Up manual separately warns that its slide may be slippery when wet. Follow your model’s warnings and supervision requirements, and do not let children use the slide while it is wet or slippery.
