Western Australia’s 2025 Best of State Commercial winner was Arup Workplace in Perth/Boorloo; its Best of State Residential winner was Karijini House. The awards are state-level distinctions in separate categories, not the national Commercial and Residential category titles.

The results and practice attributions are listed in the official 2025 awards results. The release gives further jury commentary about Arup Workplace, but less project-specific design detail about Karijini House; that difference in coverage does not establish a difference in design quality.
What the awards recognize
The Australian Interior Design Awards program was in its 22nd year in 2025. The awards describe the program as a partnership between the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media’s InteriorsAu. Its jury said “the strongest projects place human experience at the forefront, creating immersive spatial environments that educate, bring joy, nurture and inspire.”
Arup Workplace’s two additional awards extend its recognition beyond the WA state result. The jury described the project as showing “clear sensitivity to how people interact with an interior, employing resources responsibly to deliver a user-friendly outcome.” Both quotations are attributed to the jury in the 2025 results release.

How to read the state results
Best of State Commercial and Best of State Residential identify the leading state entries in those respective categories. They should not be confused with the overall national category awards. The 2025 release names Studio Prineas’ Montage Apartment as the Residential Design Award winner; Karijini House’s WA Best of State Residential result is a distinct recognition.
The awards program’s overview says judging is anonymous, transparent and confidential, using peer review by eminent designers working with a convenor appointed by the Design Institute of Australia. It lists seven primary categories, two optional categories and four automatic categories. A project may be entered in more than one primary category when appropriate, but each category requires a separate submission and fee.

The official 2025 release identifies the two WA winners but does not give a total entry count, a count of WA entries or a numerical share of WA winners. The two state awards therefore cannot be used to calculate how many Western Australian projects entered or how the state performed proportionally.
For clarity, the current 2026 entry conditions say eligible projects must be furnished and completed between 1 July 2024 and 31 December 2025, and may be located anywhere in the world. Those dates describe the 2026 program, not the rules for the 2025 awards.
