The project details and construction costs were reported by general contractor Robins & Morton in September 2026.
What was completed?
Robins & Morton reported ribbon cuttings for two distinct renovation projects at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville. One upgraded clinical space in the J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Tower; the other renovated laboratory space in the Main Tower.
| Project | Purpose and scope | Area | Capacity | Reported construction cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Transplant Nursing Unit and Neuro ICU | New Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center unit for stem cell transplant care, plus renovation of four Neuro ICU rooms | 26,300 square feet on the tower’s 11th floor, plus four rooms on the 10th floor | 24 beds in the transplant nursing unit; four Neuro ICU rooms renovated | $16 million |
| Histology and Cytology Lab | Renovated laboratory spaces for histology, cytology, blood bank and pathology | 21,250 square feet on the Main Tower’s first floor | Not stated by Robins & Morton | $12.1 million |
Robins & Morton described the combined construction costs as more than $28 million. The figures are project costs reported by the contractor, not measures of clinical performance or patient outcomes.
How the transplant and Neuro ICU work was organized
The larger clinical project converted 26,300 square feet on the 11th floor of the J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Tower into a 24-bed Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center Transplant Nursing Unit for stem cell transplants. The same project also renovated four Neuro ICU rooms on the 10th floor.

How these projects differ from other campus construction
The September 2026 completion announcement concerns renovations inside existing hospital towers; it is separate from other work announced for the shared Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital campus.
- In October 2021, Baptist Health announced a separate $4 million renovation of dining, lounge, conference and administration areas in the Wolfson Family Adult Tower, with completion then expected in spring 2022. That planned project is not evidence about completion of the 2026 clinical renovations. See Baptist Health’s newsroom.
- In September 2025, Baptist Health announced construction had begun on a separate four-story, 123,000-square-foot emergency and patient tower. The announcement said both emergency rooms would remain open during construction. That new tower is not one of the completed renovations described above. See Baptist Health’s newsroom.
What the announcement says—and does not establish
Robins & Morton Florida Division Manager Todd Watson said, “These new spaces will enhance the hospital’s ability to deliver advanced services, supporting the highest level of patient care for the Jacksonville community.” That is the contractor’s description of the spaces’ expected value. The announcement reports scope, area, capacity and construction costs, but provides no before-and-after patient outcomes, staffing figures or testing results.
