Nala Renewables’ current website lists an October 7, 2026 notice to proceed for construction of its 125 MW / 250 MWh Vuolijoki battery energy storage project in Finland. The milestone advances the project beyond the ready-to-build status reported in February, but the available announcement listing does not establish a construction schedule or operating date.

What has changed at the Vuolijoki project?

Nala’s website lists an announcement dated October 7, 2026, saying the company issued a notice to proceed for construction of the Vuolijoki BESS project. The full announcement page was not available, so details beyond the listing’s title and date cannot be confirmed. Nala Renewables

That is a later milestone than the one reported on February 17, 2026. At that time, ESS News said Nala Renewables and Fu-Gen had closed on a ready-to-build project and that construction was expected to begin later in 2026. The February timing was a forecast; the October notice to proceed is the newer reported status. ESS News

Where is it, and what is being built?

The project is a standalone battery energy storage system in Vuolijoki, central Finland, developed by Nala Renewables and Fu-Gen. The announced capacity is 125 MW / 250 MWh.

MW measures power—the rate at which a system can deliver or absorb electricity—while MWh measures energy. Dividing 250 MWh by 125 MW gives a two-hour energy-to-power ratio. That is arithmetic from the announced figures, not confirmation of the battery’s actual dispatch duration or operating strategy.

What the notice does—and does not—confirm

A notice to proceed signals a move into construction under the project’s arrangements, but the available listing alone does not provide a construction programme or technical and commercial detail. The sources available for the project do not establish:

  • The battery supplier, chemistry, equipment model, EPC contractor or balance-of-plant design.
  • Project financing, contracted revenue, grid services or interconnection details.
  • A target commercial operation date, construction duration, project cost, jobs figure or emissions reduction.

Nala’s website describes the company as developing, building, operating and investing in solar, onshore wind and battery-storage projects. It reports around 3 GW across its operational, in-construction and development portfolio and a 10 GW portfolio vision by 2030; these are company-reported portfolio figures, not project-specific measures or independently verified totals.
