SRU Construction Management Degrees: What’s Confirmed About the EAS Carpenters Link

Slippery Rock University (SRU) has a catalogued 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and, separately, trustees approved a proposed online Bachelor of Applied Science for state-level review in June 2026. The available official pages do not confirm that Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Technical Centers (EASCTC) is partnering with SRU or building a “national model.” EASCTC’s documented construction-management degree partnership is with Rowan University.

What SRU’s construction management programs are

Catalogued Bachelor of Science

SRU’s 2026–2027 Academic Catalog lists a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management effective Fall 2025. Its curriculum guide, revised September 18, 2025, totals 120 credits. It combines construction coursework with engineering, science, mathematics, business, and general education requirements.

Construction-specific subjects include estimating and scheduling, quantity surveying and document analysis, safety, construction law and contracts, heavy construction methods and equipment, cost control, and a capstone. The catalog establishes the degree and curriculum; it does not establish an EASCTC credit arrangement.

Proposed Bachelor of Applied Science

In a June 23, 2026 trustees summary, SRU said trustees approved a proposed Bachelor of Applied Science in construction management for forwarding to state-level final approval. The university described it as an online, career-advancing degree for professionals intended to recognize apprenticeship learning and opportunities to earn industry-recognized certificates. SRU said the collaborative design draws on agreements with local community colleges, trade organizations, and other industry partners, but the summary does not name EASCTC.

The summary said SRU could begin enrolling students as early as December 2026 if the Pennsylvania State System’s Office of the Chancellor approves the program. That is a conditional possibility, not confirmation that approval was granted or enrollment opened.

What is—and is not—confirmed about EAS Carpenters

Official sources document an EASCTC construction-management education partnership with Rowan University, not SRU. Rowan’s partnership page describes online construction management and business programs for eligible United Brotherhood of Carpenters members. It lists an online Bachelor of Arts in Construction Management and stackable certificates; the three construction-management certificates may be earned individually or together as the core requirements for the bachelor’s degree.

An EAS Carpenters announcement dated November 12, 2024 says eligible members and apprentices can access an expedited pathway and may receive up to 73 equivalent college credits, depending on their trade program. That figure and pathway apply to the EASCTC–Rowan arrangement; they should not be assumed to apply to either SRU degree. Rowan’s page also lists 30% tuition savings for its bachelor’s degree or construction-management certificates, a Rowan offer whose terms may change.

These are distinct arrangements and credentials. SRU’s catalogued program is a BS; its proposed program is a BAS awaiting state approval in the cited summary; Rowan’s partnership offers a BA pathway. The cited pages do not show that the proposed SRU BAS incorporates the Rowan agreement, EASCTC apprenticeship credit, or Rowan’s tuition terms.

What carpenters should verify before choosing a pathway

Apprenticeship experience may be relevant to a degree pathway, but the available SRU summary does not specify which credentials or training hours receive credit, how they are evaluated, or whether EASCTC members are eligible for the proposed BAS. Anyone considering SRU should confirm current program status and transfer-credit rules directly with the university. Anyone assessing the documented EASCTC pathway should check Rowan’s current eligibility, credit evaluation, certificate, and tuition terms.

  • Which degree is currently available: SRU’s catalogued BS, the proposed BAS if approved, or Rowan’s BA?
  • Does the institution recognize the applicant’s specific apprenticeship or trade credentials, and how many credits can be awarded after review?
  • Are there separate admission, certificate, residency, or course-completion requirements?
  • For the proposed BAS, has state-level approval been issued, and is an enrollment date confirmed?

Why the “national model” claim needs confirmation

The cited official material supports SRU’s two construction-management degree developments and a separate EASCTC–Rowan partnership. It does not substantiate an EASCTC–SRU agreement or establish that either institution has described the SRU proposal as a national model. The headline’s central partnership claim therefore remains unverified on the available evidence.
